Shapers Ship to ship communications
Hello
i put my stone for your build:
i had just did a voice test say me if your prefer handle the "post production" because i have some noise on the recording and honestly i'm not sure how to remove it
Then just listen the 3 sec record here and say me if i m audible or if it's totaly a wrong prononciation...lol

Re: Shapers Ship to ship communications
I like your voice, and I am very pleased to get another voice into the game. I like the French accent for the Shaper faction. I have one complaint: the word "valuable" was difficult to recognize. You said it as val-u-A-ble, but in English you want it to sound like VAL-u-a-ble.
My voice acting tutorial explains how to edit the sound after you record it, including how to remove noise: http://www.willadsenfamily.org/us/don/t ... torial.htm
If you have any questions please send me a PM and I will assist you.
Thank you for lending your voice.

Very good voice, Fendorin, it was worth the wait!
If you have trouble with the filtering I can assist you, as I'm currently out of ideas for other guilds; I have tried the noise removal of Audacity on your sample and it already makes a little difference, I think you can take out the flaws with Turbo's full recipe; and if some noise survives as a background while you're talking, I wouldn't worry too much as long as these are meant as radioed voices (it might be a problem for fixers, but that's not a current issue). In fact, the mix of filters aims both at balancing the output for clarity's sake, and degrading it to make it radio-like; your parasite noise could actually turn into an added value for this task

And this last week i handle a lot of think in my job (soon the fashion week!!!!!- yes i m french and yes i work for fashion, maybe cliché-lol)then i did'have clear long time for record the text.

Re: Shapers Ship to ship communications
"beckons" is just a slightly archaic word mostly used by religious types currently the root for the the word is begging as "in begging to differ" .Hope it does not get too hectic during fashion week for you.

Re: Shapers Ship to ship communications
Salut Fendorin, if you shared only the .aup file, that won't be enough; if I try to open the project, Audacity complains about not finding a folder named "Shaper Long test acting_data".
As long as real project information is not too relevant, like for a test, you might just export an ogg.
By the way, the Audacity on my Debian Sid has been updated to version 1.3.6

Re: Shapers Ship to ship communications
I think your voice works very well for the Shaper faction. My only suggestion is that you speak more slowly -- in the game there will be other sounds playing at the same time, and you want to be heard.
"Beckon" refers to a motion of your hand, that is used to invite someone to come closer to you. Thus, "in a calm manner, the future invites you to come closer and take it."

I volunteer for the post production, not being busy with actingFendorin wrote:soon soon....

As long as you're happy with Turbo's standard filtering we've used for other voices, that's fine; it's all done with built-in effects (no extra plugins) and chains of effects can be saved into macros; applying a macro to multiple files is quick and easy.Fendorin wrote:one "files" per sentences and each sentences repeated 3 times

In other voices I've done, where I also used extra plugins that can't be macroed, the fastest way was to apply all the effects on a whole recording, and then cut the single sentences into separate files.
I'd encourage anyone to indicate here the best of the 3 takes for each sentence, in order to focus post-production on them only; let alone the macro, there's still some work to be done on each phrase, like cutting leading/trailing silence and silencing the pauses inbetween. Yes, yes, you got me, I'm lazy!

These sound great, and I appreciate the extra work to do it multiple times. I am busy with a PGG project this weekend but I think cLoneWolf offered to do the post-production and XML code. Thanks to both of you.

Re: Shapers Ship to ship communications
Confirmed! I got the zip, doing some file renaming for consistency, then I'll do the filtering; native English speakers from all around Sol (rivalin! wherefor art thou?!?), please indicate which of the 3 takes for each sentence we should keep, I'm not the most appropriate one to chooseTurbo wrote:These sound great, and I appreciate the extra work to do it multiple times. Edit - update
current status:
file renaming: done
filtering: done
silencing/trimming: to be done after best sentences are chosen
OGG tagging: done (Artist name: Fendorin, Track title: Shaper speech, Album Title: Vegastrike, Comment: the sentence)
txt file with sentences: done
Spotted a typo (cosomos instead of cosmos) in shaper.xml; gone.
The recording of "Clearance code acknowledged; move into landing pattern and dock at the white indicators." lacks the "Clearance code acknowledged" part; Fendorin, you don't need to redo the whole sentences, just record the missing part and I'll mix it to the chosen rest.

Re: Shapers Ship to ship communications
Hi !
Thanks to work on
Some sentences was dificult to prononce for a french the "flow" (woed arrengement was not a typical french to english kind of speaking) i know now french reverse a lot of word into sentence. then isn't so natural for me to prononce/act the voice .
but about choice of one of the voice, i think you can do it, because you are not native english (un uomo da italia?) then you can choose the one are more clear for you , it should be still clear for native english no??
or maybe Turbo can do it, ?
i hope my french accent isn't so difficult to understand...

Re: Shapers Ship to ship communications
I'm not sure about that, because we're both neo-latin speakers, so we might understand each other's English more than natives would Something similar happened with my 1st samples for merchants, that resulted not clear enough; that's why I'm being cautious on this topicFendorin wrote:but about choice of one of the voice, i think you can do it, because you are not native english (un uomo da italia?) then you can choose the one are more clear for you , it should be still clear for native english no??
Now, given that Turbo will help us as soon as he can, here's the plan: I'll try to work on all the sentences to provide a complete set, all filtered already (the radio effect can also have a negative impact on clarity).
The only negative side for the committer will be some more renaming to do, as I'll have to rename the 3 takes like shaper_unable-to-comply1.ogg shaper_unable-to-comply2.ogg shaper_unable-to-comply3.ogg
I hope to make it all by this evening, but I can't promise that.
Edit - status update:
http://olografix.org/groucho/vs/shaperdraft.zip
This is the zip with the txt and the separate sentences in ogg
The xml is being updated with the voice tags, but its final status will depend on the chosen sentences, as some are slightly different from the original text; if those are chosen, I'll modify the txt, xml and ogg tags accordingly.
Fendorin, I hope you like the current results

Hey team,
I haven't forgotten about this. But I have to work 12-hours shifts until late this month, which delayed my PGG project, which is delaying my input to your voice work. Sorry.

Hearing Andolians talking with my voice the first time gave me a very weird and cool feeling! You'll like that, I bet!Fendorin wrote:I hope i will reply to myself soon when i will ask a shaper ship a docking clearance or blast a pirate.....
Don't worry, as long as we don't break canon (and JackS would surely tell us about it) I guess we can do minimal adjustments to the sentences; it's all in the xml so there's no need to change the main code.Fendorin wrote:(The recording of "Clearance code acknowledged") I didn't record because it was impossible to prononce AKNOWLEDGED it, s gave my something like .....gnalodgIdeid....

Besides, some rewording while keeping the same sense as you did IMHO adds some variety that doesn't hurt at all, especially for a faction like the Shapers, who appreciate outstanding
About the "acknowledged", anyway, you also had to record that word alone, and all the 3 takes were good, I chose the one I found better but they all sounded correct and clear to me.
Turbo, don't worry, take your time, VS was speechless just a while ago before you started working on it!
Besides, I remind everyone that any input is welcome!

In the case of Shapers, as Fendorin has worked on them, I meant input as feedback on his work, if we need to change something or if it's ready for SVN.MC707 wrote:Input for shapers, or what other factions are not done?
About the missing factions, there's a page on the Wiki, in the audio develpment section, that we're keeping up to date with the work in progress:
