Modding universe background

Post by picklion »

Is there a way to get the background with all the nebulas and such to be simple starfield?
I find that in systems with simple starfields the game runs at a very reasonable speed but with the nebula background, it becomes unpleasantly slow and the gameplay suffers seriously.
I would rather just do away with the starfield if that's possible. If anyone has any experience with this or a solution please help!
Thanks!

Ok, I solved this one, if anyone else needs to fix it too--this is in ubuntu linux
Went in to /privateer/sectors/Gemini and edited the .system files. I took whatever background="backgrounds/whatever" and changed it to background="backgrounds/plasma_galaxy"
It's the first line, easy to find.
You have to do that for EVERY system, so it's tedious, but it makes the game playable for me, so worth it.

Despite of that your problem sounds as if your video card drivers aren't up to date rather then your compi is too slow to display the other background files.

I'd try to get the newest drivers first.
