Where is Earth in the Sol sector?

Sorry to revive an old question, but I think this may have changed...

Does anyone know which system Earth is in the Sol sector?

Also, is the universe randomly generated each time or is it always the same? I noticed from different saved games that the map (SHIFT+M) looks different for each saved game.

The generated universe maintains the physical geography but varies the political geography(where the various factions start).

You're right, the universe stays the same, but the factions change.
