Recruiting help through SF
SF has a new forum where people can ask/offer help.
What do we need the most?
I'm thinking modding tools - we have some, but we really need to progress there a lot more. But that's a huge project. Anything simpler?

How about some love for UnitConverter to speed it's been quite a while since pyramid committed it. Some help with mount point placement as units.csv format that it currently used is not very user friendly at all.

I don't know. I've never seen the sources. Maybe.pheonixstorm wrote:I thought it was in python??
In any case, we'd need the sources to work on it. It's not on ppueditor.

It's not so nice having tools split between ppueditor and VS itself...

Anyway, I, for once, would like to have 3D virtual cockpits. It's somewhat embarrassing that we've had the support for many years yet we mostly don't use them.

And for years we haven't had a lot of artists either... Several of the ships we currently have look rather horrible when in the same scene as our more modern models.
As for the tools.. if you recall it was originally a project for creating content tools for PPU and not VS though it did get switched several months later into VS tools (as they edit the VS files anyway and none are specific to Priv, ST, etc).

Exactly, no need to even pretend they're specific to PPU.
What I really need to write is a replacement for xNormal. The linux version won't ever come, it's been years since Santiago said it would be coming, and nothing.
xNormal is brilliant, but being closed source really ties our hands when it comes to this kind of thing.

What do we use xNormal for anyway?

hmmm wasnt aware we needed it for normals. No other good utility we can use on linux for this?
Shouldn't blender be able to handle creating normal maps?

It can but is has minimal functionality and the other bakes are needed as well I can run xNormal on my box it only takes a few hours to generate all the textures for a particular modelpheonixstorm wrote:hmmm wasnt aware we needed it for normals. No other good utility we can use on linux for this?

Re: Recruiting help through SF
It is posible to compile a list of ships that would need some overhaul? I mean not complete redesign, but just some more polies and better textures/uv maybe.pheonixstorm wrote:And for years we haven't had a lot of artists either... Yes, of course it is possible (never say never and all that stuff).log0 wrote:It is posible to compile a list of ships that would need some overhaul? Anyway, I just asked for 3D cockpits. I just want them
If someone compiles that list you mentioned, we could ask for models too.
