But who's Bueller? Also: I've had a nasty cold for the past few days, recovering as of yesterday and today. Bit busy this week but should be able to do those lines tomorrow or the day after.

Yeah, just ignore the Bueller part, keep the general idea.

As usual, tell me what you think. I need to take care of some things (school-related) before I start on the Forsaken lines, but I'll get to them soon.

Re: Need yet another voice actor?
I'd start on the Forsaken, but I'm not really sure what kind of speech patterns they have (I don't think I've run into them in a long time, in fact), or what kind of accent I should try to use. Suggestions?

I bet the wiki says something. If not, maybe someone else (some content guy) can answer.
Failing that... there's the background docs on them, that should give you some idea.

Re: Need yet another voice actor?
Just about 90% done with a single set of voice lines, multiple versions of most lines. Will edit this post when finished.

Again, don't edit. I won't see the post if you edit. Post again, nobody will be offended

Re: Need yet another voice actor?
The last 10 or so were done just now, and IMO they sound fairly different. I'd be willing to try them again, but apparently I'm pretty bad at doing different types of accents.

Ah, yes, sorry, I've been really busy lately, with the PyCon and all.
If by the time I get free you're not finished pheonixstorm, I'll give it a listen.

Listened, they are ok. Seem a bit monotonous. No real change from one clip to the next. Also seem to echo a little. Do you plan on adding any background noise? Differing mannerisms?
Can't think.. late and kid is climbing all over me coughing. Will try to finish later.

Re: Need yet another voice actor?
I'd be willing to do some more lines, try to get rid of the monotone, but I'm not really sure what you mean by "background noise", and aside from an old ham radio, I don't have much in the way of background-noise-makers.

Re: Need yet another voice actor?
The hum of electronics or engine noises would be a fine start. Perhaps background chatter or a hint of static. Something to make it sound more alive.
I liked the confed set you did. Has some issues but sounded a lot better than this set.
Depending on the software you are using you could change a few things mid way to make it sound as if the signal gets distorted for a second. Anything to make them feel more alive and provide greater variety.

I don't think we should add those on comm files.pheonixstorm wrote:The hum of electronics or engine noises would be a fine start. Perhaps background chatter or a hint of static. Something to make it sound more alive.
That kind of stuff should be added dynamically by the engine, I have some plans for that for the new sound system.
Because I processed them a lot. This new set for the Foresaken sound the same as the confed masters before I did the processing (I'm not sure about the dialogue, I didn't check them all yet)pheonixstorm wrote:I liked the confed set you did. Has some issues but sounded a lot better than this set.
I ought to post the program I'm using... I already uploaded the preset files to the masters repo so it should be reproducible if you had the program (which is for windows btw - back when I coded for windows, never got around to make a linux version and works fine in wine).pheonixstorm wrote:Depending on the software you are using you could change a few things mid way to make it sound as if the signal gets distorted for a second. Nice.
So what about com static if no hum/engine noises?

I just do the equalization and simulate some compression artifacts (one would expect digital comms).pheonixstorm wrote:So what about com static if no hum/engine noises?
All the other effects will be done dynamically (and that means variedly) by the engine before 0.6. In fact, it's slated for 0.5.3 I think.

Re: Need yet another voice actor?
1. I'd be happy to record some assorted static noises, ham radio noises, etc. whirrs and hums from some stuff we have laying around.
2. I've been pretty busy recently, and nicer voice lines take practice. I'll probably be ready to record around Thursday.

That'd be useful as samples for the dynamic noise engine.Maxaxle wrote:1. I'd be happy to record some assorted static noises, ham radio noises, etc. whirrs and hums from some stuff we have laying around.

Re: Need yet another voice actor?
Took me waaay longer than it should have, even with issues IRL, but managed to capture a fair amount of nice sounds from two ham radios I have laying around and one recorded with an MP3 player (in .mp3 format, unsurprisingly). Totally unedited, so that ambient noises and ambient noise levels are obvious.

I'll make some more, if I can get my hands on anything else that makes interesting noises. Supposedly my dad has a hard drive that "phones home", or makes a series of beeps to signify...something. Probably an error code of some sort, but an interesting noise regardless; I'll try to record it as soon as I can.
