Propose CIVILIAN SHIPYARD (human)
Hello:
i made a new installation for civilian:
a massive asteroid station for build tiny and huge ship
its around 3500 poly and "triangulate" (i understand now why it's better)
2 map (2048)&(1024)
but i try to made a Spec/PPL map very simple in fact fully black for asteroid rock and fully light grey for hull .
and when i tryed to rendering: nothing happened !! with opengl wings3d render motor ( i thought )
(for exemple on this picture normaly for rock i have two map in wings3d
and two materiel but the rock is still shiny!!)
then i downloaded Yafray plugins for wings3d and maybe (for sure) my knowledge is so poor for use it:
i have picture like many little black point on white/grey form.
somebody could help me for test this 2map :glow and ppl???

Looks amazing, as we have come to expect from you Fendorin.
Constructive criticism: the asteroid is a bit rounded. Common understanding of astroids is that they are quite lumpy, jagged things because there is no erosion in space (which smooths rocks e.g. in water) so asteroids are shaped mainly from collisions and breaking up of other bodies.

I'm not familiar with wings; but generally speaking, for the specular map to show, you need an environment for the objects to reflect; you need to setup an environment map (either a cube-map or spheremap).Fendorin wrote:but i try to made a Spec/PPL map very simple in fact fully black for asteroid rock and fully light grey for hull .

Now, if the rock is black in specular and still looks shiny, that's not a good indication. Perhaps the specular map is not set up properly. Maybe you forgot to tell wings that specularity should come from the texture.

Shipyards are definitely a needed unit in the game. Any campaign worth it's salt will have some mission involving the destruction of some enemy's shipyard.
My only 2 cents is to maybe band around the asteroid so we can pretend things like stabilizing thrusters exist and maybe provide mounting points for defense turrents / shield arrays.

I'm neither the wings guy. Basically I haven't touched units modeling yet.
@Fendorin
For your questions related to glow textures and rendering with wings there are more wings-versatile artists around that, I hope, will be able to help you.
In particular for the glow and other texturing questions, watch closely chuck_starchaser's posts as the pipeline is actually being worked out at this point in time.
Your models are, as always, crème-de-la-crème.
