Pirate92, we all want to preserve our children's innocence. But trying to censor everything that even mildly hints at sex is going too far. You're denying your child the knowledge he will need as an adult.
Personally I find people who had sex education classes better adjusted than those that had been starved of it while growing up by purist parents.

A Step Into Oblivion
Dreams of things that will never be,
Songs of thoughts only I can hear,
Leave me be to sleep forever,
To dream my dreams,
And sing my hymns,
Of things that will never be...
Dreams of things that will never be,
Songs of thoughts only I can hear,
Leave me be to sleep forever,
To dream my dreams,
And sing my hymns,
Of things that will never be...

Just so you all know, I never said I was the adult. I am the child infact. (I could say that I do not want the children in this house to see this *WHEN I PLAY*). But as one of the oldest teenagers I do have my responcability to keep this knowlage from my simblings AND myself. I do know of this knowlage but my younger sibs are not old enough.

Ok. I'm SORRY. LOL.
I know exactly how you feel. I myself have a younger sis and is extremely protective of her. But she's old enough now to understand for herself.
So... I'm sorry. heh. I thought you were just some overprotective parent. Loki can help you with the 'PG' mod. Good luck.

vegastrike is pretty moddable, and im sure you can RENAME and REMOVE cargo and their pics.
i did the same thing with simple medicens in the beta, i preffered the blue pills to the tape, so you could change the picture of Pleasure borgs to some kind or robo kid and change the description aswell.
and if/when multiplayer support comes up you/your sisters/bros can play MP too without the hassle of connection problems.
All thanks to the open-ness of this game (like that even made sense)
ill probably try and find all images you have to change and the text files that need editing, but im most certianally one you CANNOT count on.

As far as I have done, this is about it. I do not know alot on how to code, the game I demonstrated was made with a free game maker, and a few pieces of code I had to learn to write on the spot. I have come to ignore vega strike, so if ever there is a version with absilutely clean for young children, I can do nothing but work on the game I made.

You know people, the dxt5 (jpg compression, i forget its exact name) compression makes it difficult to search the folders for the particular offending images. you can't just open up a picture and see, OH yeah! that's the one to delete.
By the way, the splash screens are in the folders
/vdata / animations / splash_*******
The particular ones I know of are
splash_holovid.ani
splash_pacifier.ani
splash_travel.ani

KDE has built-in DDS support, so if you view icons with previews in Konqueror, you can see them in the icons, or opening each image in Konqueror or Gwenview will let you be able to see the images.
I am a bit surprised that Windows has no built-in viewer, considering that Microsoft was the one to design the DDS format in the first place for direct X
Anyway, here is a program you can download to view DDS files:
http://developer.nvidia.com/object/wind ... iewer.html
The only caveat is that you have to actually rename the file to have a .dds at the end.
Alternatively, you can browse the originals (in jpeg or png format) online here:
http://vegastrike.svn.sourceforge.net/v ... nimations/
when deciding which ones to delete

Re: There's Crude content.
The "erotic" in erotic sheep is nowhere on that picture. You've assumed it, because of the association. It's supposed to be humorous.
There are far more controversial pictures, the splashes that were already mentioned for instance. You're free to remove them if they offend your senses. Though in the case of the sheep, I'd call it lack of humor.

Ha ha, I do find it humourous. I was thinking I'd change it to scantily clad women but then I may lose my clients on the farming planets.

I find this thread offensive... as well as "game maker" software. They might be useful to prototype a game, but to make a game with one?? Yuck!

Ya, game maker stuff is only good to sell the idea of game development to young children. Or maybe computer illiterates too. But certainly not good for anything half-serious.

I guess all three are likely to "offend" the fans of products widely advertised in the parodied manner. Aaand there are many of such advertisements, or it wouldn't be recognizable. I fail to see an end-of-the-world scenario in this, however.rigelan wrote:splash_holovid.ani

Well, with a list of "objectionable" content, it wouldn't be difficult to make a config option for... I wouldn't call it "child safe", there's nothing dangerous in present content, but maybe "politically correct" content?

There is little that I have seen in VS that one does not see as bad, or worse, in the US on network (IE free broadcast) television. Not that those moral standards are particularly high, but I find it odd that you would allow your kids to play a potentially violent game (combat is one of the main thrusts after all, and must be intentionally avoided if that is your desire) and object to the relatively tame imagery. The most salacious thing as far as I'm concerned is the promo for that "Dangerous Frontier" show. The pacifier ad is pushing it, but mostly because of the apparent young age of the girl. (I'm not sure she is 18...) As for the goat; I have wondered if I want to know, but it is not directly offensive. Around here jokes about the lonely rancher and the sheep are not uncommon.

The OP's main concern was the off chance his little sisters and parents would see them,so I tried to help him but he never did figure it out I gather that the family had some rather fundamentalist views of what flavor was never mentioned.Being agnostic myself I rarely worry about anyone's beliefs as long as they don't start preaching at my

Leaning toward Romney myself. Not that the current guy is a bad person, just don't like his politics. (And yes I'm aware this post may sound silly in 10 years as it will likely still be around ) I would hope we are all mature and articulate enough to scratch the surface of politics without name calling and burning the site down. Quite honestly, the communication furnished by the web would seem to prove that, by and large, without politicians the world would be far more peaceful.

Aaand of course we can't be biased on the "political" part, can we? So, there would be a droplist with at least a dozen of variants, including very obscure. And not so obscure - like OMRLP. Hmmm... I'm starting to like the idea.klauss wrote: but maybe "politically correct" content?
I won't assume even this much. See panel #2.travists wrote: but I find it odd that you would allow your kids to play a potentially violent game (combat is one of the main thrusts after all, and must be intentionally avoided if that is your desire) and object to the relatively tame imagery.

Re: There's Crude content.
I would agree generally, especially about the weirdness of worrying about sexually implicit imagery when it's already all around us even in public ads and when violence would seem a lot more worrisome to me, but it's not my (or our) position to agree or disagree. If supporting their wishes is as easy as unlisting some controversial content, I don't see a reason not to give them such an option. I wouldn't use it myself on my children (if I had them), I prefer to rely on education to make them judge by themselves what is appropriate and what is not, but I recognize it's not everybody's choice to do so.travists wrote:There is little that I have seen in VS that one does not see as bad, or worse, in the US on network (IE free broadcast) television.
