it's basically a star systeme editor. it allows skybox choice, planets placement/sizing and texturing, and orbital configuration (2d orbits for now) Quite a nice tool to design solar systems, in fact^^

Well... with enough interest, the SystemExplorer thingy (the test-app for Ogre stuff) could easily evolve into this.

yes, such a tool would come really handy, at least far more intuitive than current text editing for systems:/

Aww, I like the text interface.


Anyway, given a conversion of values it'd be quite possible to key VS systems into IFoS, which has a text/numerical output. Bit of a pain to do it manually, but there is a visualization setup there at least.

yes it seems converting the files from this one to VS own format is doable; even if it looks like a pain. but some features would be missing, has placing station or asteroids fields

Did asteroid belts even get implemented in the game yet? I haven't seen any.

@ryder: PR has many, many, many of those. So many, it slows down even a Cray computer. That's why the physics engine got reworked, and after that, the next bottleneck was the graphics engine. That's why now the graphics engine is switching to Ogre... in an attempt to make asteroid fields better. Asteroid fields... nasty asteroid fields...

that's why hellcatv implemented instancied meshes, if I remember

Actually, what has to be done with asteroid fields, is implement "shader instancing"... a nice technique that could speed up the CPU side 30 times or more, depending on implementation details.
