Had a horrible time sorting out some very strange things with it initially, but now it's running, w00t. Still reckon HL2 is going to be a better game, but D3 *is* purty, and I don't have to reboot to play it :)

See http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=38459 for the fun I had ;)

I was playing with a totally broken uncalibrated monitor ;-)
when I got a nice beautiful gamma corrected 2.2 one

it's STILL BLACK ON BLACK ;-)

anyhow the demo took me about 2 hours to pass... and based on that experience I think I'll just have to imagine mars...cus it didn't impress me much

if it were brighter it'd be nicer

Most of you have surely seen this, but if not, here's a rather amusing take on doom 3 at Mac Hall (not the comic, check in the comments below it) For more rantings of a similar nature, follow Mac Hall's link to Something Awful :D

I thought about getting this for its linux support, but decided against buying a game I wouldn't like.

Well, I finished it. What a friggin' waste of time.

I think I counted exactly *two* times in the entire game when I died and it wasn't suicide (ie. falling off something, running out of oxygen ;) One of those was due to me getting so bored I just started running though a level, and I got pelted along the way, finally hitting a door that was locked until I killed a beastie (WTF??!)

All this meant that even though things were jumping out from behind cleverly-concealed secret hatches in a computer mainframe (?!?) I wasn't *worried* because I knew I wasn't in any serious danger.

Yes, I was playing it on the hardest level. No, I'm not going to play it in Nightmare - I just couldn't stand the tedium again.

Ho hum.

Another very good review is up at Idle Thumbs, and excellent gaming (theory, etc) weblog:

Bring on the mods. I note with humour though that there's a *ton* of TC mods out there being actively developed for HL2 (game not even released, let alone SDK released) and yet there's stuffall out there for doom3 (SDK released) except very minor gameplay tweaks and a couple of maps. Damn shame that, given the latter runs in Linux :(
