Autopilot Fail: Why fudging direct me into the SUN!?

Post by Itusa »

ARRRRGGGHHHH

Sure, it avoids planets...and outposts...but when it comes to the Sun? Nah, lets head straight for it (destination was on the other side, some arid planet or other). This is after two segfaults and on a respawn the NavComp had an error message. So I restarted Vegastrike and all of a sudden the keyboard wouldn't work, so I had to restart the machine. I'm having a bad day with Vegastrike it seems.

Apparently, one does not simply quit vegastrike, they must dock and then quit. -_- who designed that bit and where can I buy a large wet trout?

Welcome aboard Itusa could you run it from a terminal next time and post both stdout and stderr yeah the the shut down is real funky that code predates stable desktops in Linux  yeah we're that old and there are also issues with having to function on three separate OS's that driving into the system's primary is quite common it is a consequence of the way SPEC is designed to work gravity wells inhibit it so the auto-pilot tries to avoid them.

I usually run via terminal, so I'll do that. Does Vega strike have a 'verbose' option? However, it doesn't help if the keyboard stops responding.

Hopefully some of the seg faults can be cleaned up though!

You could use redirection of the output to a file so that the log survives the seg-fault and yes there is a verbose mode but I forget the exact syntax klauss posted it several times though so it should still be somewhere here on the forum. Will do a look see later and update this thread.

Enjoy the Choice :)

$~ vegastrike --help

There's a debug option!

Yep and a full back trace if you compiled with debug symbols enabled there's some documentation on it in the Wiki.

I had a similar problem, where I got stuck near a star.

No segfault or crash, no error messages either. Just got stuck and could not fly out. I could see the shield being drained slowly assuming it was the radiation from the sun?

Not really. Most likely you stuck inside and suffer micro-collisions. It happens, though very rarely.
