Take a look at its github repo, Torque3D, is now not only open-source, but MIT-licensed.
We might take the opportunity to learn a thing or two. Not sure yet if we can grab MIT-licensed code, but I bet we can read it

The MIT licence is the one that the nVidia texture tools use.So there should be no real impediment as long as it is properly attributed.
