My old 19" monitor died. It had a good run, about 7 years. So when I saw a 27" for the same price as what I paid for the 19" all those years ago, how could I resist?

So now this is my desktop, featuring the new monitor and my even-older 18" monitor in portrait mode:
Sitting at my normal distance, the new screen takes up my entire horizontal view angle. Yeah baby!
Sadly, a few seconds after I took this picture, VS 0.5.1 beta crashed as it does from time to time. So I tried again and got halfway through a mission before the next crash:
I'll post the stderr to SourceForge later.
By the way, cockpit textures and splash screens are horizontally stretched on a 16:9 screen, so the girls on "Perilous Frontier" look like they're about my age.

There are two speeds in combat: stopped, and as fast as you can go. Unless you run into something, going fast keeps you alive more often than stopping.

Nice. Maybe by Christmas I'll be able to get a new desktop worthy of the monitor and video card.

Re: Decadence? I've got that
Really, the monitor was about 600 bucks there was a time when it was at 400 bucks.
But it has a real good quality. I'm running it at true HD resolution 1920x1080. And it comes from Phillips.
The computer was at about max 400 bucks, too.
The most expensive part was the processor (165 bucks). Then came the motherboard (75bucks)
The rest was <40 bucks each part.
The graphics card was a running out model. Just 22bucks!
so, you see, there is nothing expensive really if you turn every cent 2times and you get performance for it.
If you go with mainstream parts there is nothing expensive.
