Speaking as someone who spent far, far too much time playing the original, and is feeling a little disappointed with UFO: AM, I can echo that WOOHOO! :)

or, as they called it on this side of the pond, X-COM :)

I still remember fondly the first time I played the demo for the original.
I still remember my dissatisfaction with the second game.
I still remember my amusemed regrets about the third.
I still remember my utter confusion with the reasoning behind X-CCOM:Interceptor.
I still remember my utter horror when I heard they were making an FPS.

I am pleased to find this new demo more reminiscent of my more pleasurable alien killing moments.

One more to add to my list ;-)

Here a small collection of (mostly free) X-COM Ufo links:

http://www.projectxenocide.com/ -Project Xenocide (under heavy evelopment.. big fanbase it seems)
http://ufo.myexp.de/ - Ufo Alien Invasion (based on a modified quake (2?) engine)
http://edf-project.sourceforge.net/ - EDF-Project (no develompment anymore.. most of the devs are in one of the other projects now)
http://ufo2000.sourceforge.net/ - Free Engine to play the original UFO on most platforms 8)
http://sourceforge.net/projects/talon/ - A UFO like game that also includes plans for extra-earth bases/travel and a very good API-design (e.g the battlescape engine can be replaced with very low effort

Some more links:
http://www.lasthopemod.com/
http://www.ufoaftermath.co.uk/
http://www.x-com.co.uk/

I found even more, but i didn't save them all :(

The names of the first three games as i know them:
X-COM: UFO
X-COM: Terror from the deep - much better athmosphere than the first one IMHO ... and my alltime favourite ...(okok, blease stop shouting "sacrilege")
X-COM Apocalypse
