Problems with SVN on Vista

Post by Jeff2121 »

I loaded up the newest SVN version and tried to play it, but its missing the .manifest, I tried looking for it on the Sourceforge and used Loki's attachment, but neither worked, so could anyone post an attachment or provide a link for it. :D

SH*** here we go again it will probably be a while till someone can recompile the binary with VCE and make sure the manifest file is embedded into the exe itself where Vista seems to what it.the real culprit is .NET 3.0 as i need the manifest myself under XP and .NET is needed for MSV Messenger Live.

Enjoy the Choice :)

The solution is to build all binaries with VC 7.1

There haven't been any problems that I have seen from our 0.4.3 executables, and those were all from 7.1 (partly because VC8 hadn't been released yet :-p )

I'll compile my soundserver-less binary with VC7.

I'm sorry about this, but how would I go about doing that, I'm an idiot when it comes to these kinds of things. Do I download a Revision that was compiled in VC7 or Do I just look at the older versions to find the manifest?

EDIT: I searched and searched and searched, checking past revisions for vegastrike.exe.manifest, checking Sourceforge's code engine and some of the fourms but I couldn't find it. Oh well...Guess I'll just have to wait

Have you tried the latest version from SVN?

Also, Daniel posted a link that will patch this bug some of the time:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

Since you're on Vista, I'm not sure, but I would at least try it.

I'm not sure if the VC 2005 fix worked, I'm not even sure it installed, all it did was pop up a box that said something like:

"Windows is configuring your system"

Meh, anyways, I'll try the former if this doesn't work.

Thanks! :)

Meh, it didn't work >:(

I guess I could scan the Revisions or see if anyone has it on the fourms, but if not, they I should just stick to 0.4.3

You're missing the manifest file. We haven't quite come to appreciate the new and "improved" way that VC8 specifies library dependencies.

There are some things I'm going to be futzing with in the code this evening, but once I do, I'll check in a new binary and the manifest file, and then (given that you've installed the redistributables package) everything should be good... but, just to be sane about this, I'll go dust off my laptop at somepoint and check that said strategy works :) :). So, check back sometime tomorrow, and I should have updated things -- otherwise I'll have updated this thread with grumblings :-P.

okay, so... I didn't get around to all the binary changes I was going to do last night, so I didn't think it was worth upping a new one, but I did drop in a manifest file, and the test laptop (admittedly XP -- I don't have a vista test machine) seemed happy with it, so, give it a shot.

Das Speil (The Game) works!!! :D

Only two problems:

1. There are soooo many ships, I don't know which are shooting me and which arn't

2. I still prefer PR's AUTO Pilot to Vega's SPEC :)

Press R to target close hostiles and H to cycle through all hostiles in range.

R is the "shit! shit! Who the f@#$ is shooting us?" button. :D

Watch it it's real easy to get caught in a fur-ball of a battle and not everyone is hostile just the ones on your 6  there are some new key bindings there arrival in game was mentioned here a while back just check the bindings section of vegastrike.config for the details.have fun.

Enjoy the Choice :)
