can not login into cvs

Hi,
whenever I try to checkout vs-cvs I get this:

energyman@energy ~/vegastrike $ cvs login
Logging in to :pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:2401/cvsroot/vegastrike
CVS password:
cvs [login aborted]: end of file from server (consult above messages if any)

i was getting invalid agument all day yesterday so it's probaly just the sever being flackey agian

I may even have to do it 10 times---for me it doesn't matter about the day, only about the number of tries.

we should switch to SVN asap to avoid these problems

Maybe it's the bad connection in America? I'm here in Europe and with my old 56k-modem I could login to CVS instantly. I'm running a kubutu Linux and haven't tried with windows yet (which tends to be much slower at the same connection speed to the same provider).
