Good you use the open ati driver, I use it too succesfully.
I assume you rebuilt the entire thing from scratch with the new gcc (so not partly with the old and then continuing with the new, else: make distclean && ./configure && make)
If so you have an x auth problem or a resolver problem.
add "michal" or "michal@localhost" to your xhost list
man xhost
another clue could be
wrong /etc/hosts
wrong hostname
or other networking issues

So... I finally launched that... xhost + and run vegastrike bin from his directory... this are my first impressions
New aera cockipt it's cooooooool, pitty it's too framerate consuming
Lot of ships are marked as .old and they don't work very well
Key H sometimes target a friendly object (klkk factory) altrought I am friend with them
It's seems that that game is even bit faster (only subjective)
Why you slow down the ships? With Aelar I can't fly more than 240, it's a snake refit?
Good job, continue
Well I am familiar with python, I understand way how graphics working (on level of creating models, not opengl), how I can help now?

The open drivers are somewhat slower (up to 50% worst case), but atleast it's open, and contray to the misconception I see more and more, it does hardware acceleration just fine. It has been doing this for 4 years or so. New xorg has open hw accelerated 3d support for ATI's 3xx chips too now.
Yes you can use a proprietary driver. But you might as well use windows then.
Code: Select all
>
glxinfo | grep direct
direct rendering: Yes
