A step-by-step guide for Linux?

Trying to build your own version of Vega Strike and having problems? Unix users, paste your config.log here (stderr output alone is not helpful).

I haven't tried getting vegastrike to run on my linux box yet, so you should probably divert to the responses of the other forum members (when they come). In the meantime though, you can try this:
http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/files ... e-0.4.2.sh

Looks like it's a shell script, so it should be able to get the job done for you.

If you're running mandrake, you may also want to see if someone has an RPM sitting around, which would make life easier if you're not into command-line stuff.

As a final option, you could try to get the CVS version, which is more or less the black diamond route in terms of getting it up-and-running. If you go that way, you'll have the latest version when you're finished, but getting there will at least entail learning how to use CVS. You'll probably also have to wind up compiling it yourself, but I could be wrong on this one.

Also, I think you'll need OpenGL and OpenAL. And I heard mentions of the glut library.

EDIT: Here's some stuff I found on the download page.
Note: To use the following downloads, first run the shell script, then run 'vsinstall' then run 'vslauncher'.
That tells you what to do with the .sh file.

It also linked to an RPM search site to get an OpenAL RPM, but I don't see mandrake on the list.
