I don't really see this thing flying in a straight line. :S

Thrusters on the bottom too, maybe?

yea, the center of mass is well below the thrusters so it'll tumble rather than go in a straight line. you'd need equal thrust below the center of mass to keep it from tumbling.

Perhaps the cockpits should be way up in the wings and the engines down in the center. that'd be more believable.

I don't have any problem with the design. Reminds me a bit of the puffin in I-War for some reason and it has a bit of EVE Online in it as well but I don't know what. It's cool... I just don't really like the color scheme but it's not a big deal.

And about the thrusters, nobody ever complained about the startrek ships and their weird engines positionned the same way.
And in space, you don't have air resistance so it should be pretty easy to compensate the mass with a slight modification of the thruster's angle.
But of course, if you want to go realistic, you also need to add side thrusters to the ship (amongst other things) and to every ship in the game... Since when do we care about this in games?
But if it's just for aesthetic reasons, then I'm ok with it...

offset thrusters are ok, because in many cases the center of mass isn't the geometric center of the ship. In star trek, the engines were placed where you'd think they'd be placed, they weren't the nacells (sp?).

But yes, you'd need directional thrusters capable of spherical direction and most of the ships dont have them, neither does most science fiction except some of babylon 5's ships.

sci fi is not so much about being absolutely realistic to physics, but being able to suspend belief enough for you to believe what you're seeing is possible. For some of us, that bar is higher than others. I just can't see the engines being that far away from the ship and it being stable. To take it a step further, would you think of a ship with a single wing of similar length with a single large engine and nothing else being believable? It's a sliding rule, if most people like it then great, there are weirder ships in the game already :)

Since the target faction are the Spaceborn some ignoring of gravity(and corollaries) seems in order

Enjoy the Choice :)

looks like this ship would be in some real use of some bump maps rather than baking in the bumps in the lighting on the texture...

you need to export a normal map then run normal_map.exe then add it as texture4 on the mesh

Necropost! a bit.

Did anyone continue work on this? It's a very original ship design and would look great in game. All it needs, I think, is some kind of thruster on the main body to provide more balanced forward thrust, or maybe a bridge between the upper pods to give it a bit less bottomheaviness.

The textures are committed.
It might be that stats need to be reviewed (size?)
Screen shot and wallpaper would be nice.
