Planet surface texture substitution for lava.png

Here are some suggestions for the lava texture. Large molten areas with interspersed solid regions-look especially great with glowmaps.

Hi esgaroth,

It's good to see some new proposals here. Interesting textures they are and I'm looking forward to see the final selection.
It would be great to know when the poll is considered closed. I would suggest around 2 weeks time should be enough for people to decide on the preferred surface.

Regards

hello

I like the last. but without the continent, or then of the burning continent any black or very dark. I like much the "cloud" effect, red and yellow.

bien a vous mr esgaroth

I think the last one looks like it has a diameter of 100 meters. The yellow clouds make the planet look tiny.

I think Lava 2 is the only realistic option, given that this is an entire planet. Everything else seems far too bright or too small going by the details.

Sorry- the poll lasts 2 weeks from the beginning.
And for the last one- the yellow streaks are no clouds, but areas of especially hot glowing magma- but the tastes are different, as we say here....

Yeah, I like Lava 4 the best, but maybe you should sharpen the yellow magma, so it looks less like clouds and more like a trench, if thats possible in VS. :?

Personally, this is my favorite:

But we could always use more variants.

I have been waiting to get hold of strangelet's texture (shown by halleck) which is of excellent, almost cinematographic quality, and just have actually committed it to svn as Lava.png.

@esgaroth
Your work shall not be lost, so please keep your surfaces in the queue anyway.
If you send me the map files, I will keep them and, along the improvement roadmap, see where else they would fit.

I like the last one best by far. It makes me say  :o :D

The planet's appearance would scare most pilots out of landing, as in, "I'm not sure that this planet is entirely stable." And there would be a high radiation level to keep things that hot. So it would be an ideal location for something that does not wish to be found.
