I found some more time to add various things to the nightlies:
So if you are interested please test them.
.) basic code for exporting tags (explained in the sample config.txt)
.) additional data for the tags in a config file like seen in the sample data. The config file is needed for export.
I also uploaded some sample data here:
http://members.chello.at/stefbuer/vegas ... s_test.zip
Don't mind the unit.txt and unit_blank.txt. Support for these will come in the future
For detailed information about new things in the nightlies see the progress here:

I can't seem to export to the VegaStrike format. It brings up the save dialog, I choose where to save it, but the files never show up. I tried other exports and they work fine. I downloaded it last night, and it didn't work. So when I saw a new version, I just tried it out, and it doesn't work either. Any clue?

If it doesn't do anything there is sure an error message in there.
And the final question: did you use the nighly a release?
EDIT:
The behaviour of the nightly has changed in comparision to the latest releases.
If you are using the nighlty you need a config file for every model you want to export. Did you use this?
A sample file is located here

another nightly update
I updated the nightlies of the plugin.
The config-stuff is finally working (except for the texture filenames, but they will follow soon).
I also updated the sample data here (look at this carefully):
http://members.chello.at/stefbuer/vegas ... s_test.zip
For detailed information about new things in the nightlies see the progress here:
http://members.chello.at/stefbuer/vegas ... ORT_PLUGIN
EDIT: NOTE: the direction of the tags is not exported correctly (yet)
EDIT2: I think i fixed it I uploaded the new files.

Another update of the nighlies:
http://members.chello.at/stefbuer/vegas ... ORT_PLUGIN
I updated the sample data (i think the config-format is good enough to freeze it):
http://members.chello.at/stefbuer/vegas ... s_test.zip
Now the header of the mesh-file is specified in the config file (except for "Scale").
So you can fully specify the output of the export plugin in the config and no xunit/xmesh-file-tweaking afterwards is needed.
This nightly is supposed to be an pre-beta (some may say alpha ) version. Which means i will release a beta when i can get sure there are no fatal errors in it. I will not upload major changes to the nighlies until the release of the stable version.
Please help me test this baby (especially the config functionality and the directions of the tags (=turrets/weapons)).
Note: You will not be able to convert existing weapons/docks/engines/... because of the switch to tag-geoemtry. (though it's not that hard to replace them )
