The models I make are mostly small and agile ships.
It's been a very long time since I stopped modeling so I'm not exactly good at it. You can call them flying remote controllers. :P
Here are the new ship chassias I am currently working on:
p.s. I chamferd most edges to make it less boxy.

Let me get a description of them:
Rochok: Light fighter: 2 small guns, one missile
Tazel: Light Fighter: 1 small, 1 medium gun ports.
Tengel: Stranderd Fighter: 3 Medium gun ports.
Execus: Heavy Fighter: 2 medium, 2 large gun ports. Some missile slots in the middle of the gun ports and on the side of the wing holds 3 torpedos.
Soon to come:
Potkins: Light Hauler
Heavy Hauler(no name yet)
Bomber(no name yet)
Sorry I do not have enough time to give full description since it's almost 1 AM here.
The polycount ranges between 600 to 900 faces.
also p.s. - I can't wait to blow them up in-game.
Yet another set of small ships...

Some of those (excepting the one taht is car-like) could become utility capships with proper texturing.
The car-like one.... a space-taxi?

Dreams of things that will never be,
Songs of thoughts only I can hear,
Leave me be to sleep forever,
To dream my dreams,
And sing my hymns,
Of things that will never be...

They arn't supposed to be capital ships at the first place.
Just strange looking fighters according to the asymmetrical designs. So I'm still sticking with my word to it.
They can fit 1 or 2 people in them.
I was wondering how I can come up with real good metal hull related textures for GIMP.

There should be a lot of tutorials about metal textures on the internet. You should have no problem to goggle some. The PS tuts help as well 'cause the same filters and techniques are used...
Be lenient with my english skills... still using a dictonary. http://dict.tu-chemnitz.de/

I'm sorry. I really am. I hadn't read the descriptions in your post, I just looked at the images.
for metal textures, There are reusable textures in the Hawking model i posted, you could try those as a base. It can even be rehued, etc. with gimp.
