Gimp: drawing vector shapes?

Post by pontiac »

Any Gimp users here?

Is there any way in Gimp to draw (and save) vector shapes (like rectangles, circles,etc...)?

are you speaking of vector graphics? or do you just want to draw a rectangle and have it rendered to pixels

if you want hte later just use the pencil tool

then shift-click somewhere else

keep shift clicking until you have your shape

I meant the vector grafics

Yeah, i already (after a long time ;-) ) figured that out. And also the draw along a path method.
But vector grafics are much more efficient when it comes to changes.
I haven't found a possibility to use them in gimp.

AFIAK the GIMP can't do vector graphics. Try a dedicated vector graphics tool like Kontour (Linux, free) or Adobe Illustrator (Win/Mac, $$$$).

Don't mind if i correct you ;-D
GIMP can handel vector grafics with the Gfig plugin (in the render menu).
But it's an extreme simple form to do it.

Thanks for the links, i didn't know these programs until now.
But they are not what i was looking for :-)
A program which can handle vector grafics (that means in combination with raster grafics and gradients) like webdraw (jasc) or paintshop pro (also jasc)
I don't know Adobe Illustrator, but it's not free so it's no real option for me :D

Something i found when searching for an alternative:
http://sodipodi.sourceforge.net
i will look into this.
