the texturizer is outdated
the only reason you need the texturizer is to rip models from the game into .obj files
otherwise you're supposed to use wings3d.org and the wings3d stuff that pontiac has been hacking at
http://www.joeredcloud.com/kandarwiki/i ... strikeWiki
if you need to rip then paste the compile errors

pb with export
ok,
when I tries to export from wings I got this message:

And I cannot access any sort of buttons speakinh about UV maps ...
I tried on a friend's computer (on windows): it seems windows version of wing has more abilities than linux one

I just looked at the version of the available linux-packages.
It's an older version(0.98.07a, so most of the cool uv-things are not included i think).
Maybe the export interface has changed since then (this interface is supposed to be freezed in the 1.0 release of wings, but this will last a long time)
I'm currently at my families house, so i have no access to my plugin-sources to compare the API.
If it is a minority to fix i will try to make a second release of the plugin especially for the available linux release or an internal switch in the plugin.
Until i know more you can try the cvs version of wings.
Normaly you should only need the erl-framework and the cvs-files (esp. beam) to use it.
I haven't done that myself, but if you need advise you can ask the owner of Waldo's Linux Page.

Re: currently building cvs version of wings
I don't know if there is another version of wings in cvs (tough the name ) , but you may have crashes with this (it's the latest version/release). Whereever possible try to use the latest stable version as mentioned on the Wings3D homepage.etheral walker wrote:Ok, I'm currently building CVS version, I only found wings .0.98.9, as soon as I will have finish I will tell you the results
If the cvs version works for you, would you mind to make a howto in the Wiki.Howto-Section? (Something like VsHowtoCompileWingsCvs)
So other linux users have a little help on this.
Pontiac
PS: I am working with the 0.98.9 release and haven't had a crash, thought others had reported problems.

Before i start fiddling with the source could you please try to compile with the source of the 0.98.08e release:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfile ... _id=151174
I think this should work the same as the cvs source.
Do you know how to make a rmp-package from this?
So we have at least one newby-proof release of wings for linux.
Pontiac
PS: you can use any type of text (and numbers) wiki-sitename, but you must set it between [ and ] in the source (this is not recommended though)

wings 0.98.09, rpm and wiki
Thanks for the wiki tips, and yes, I can make a RPM, but I crash really often.
For the version of wings, it is the same as cvs one. I can try if you need it, but release dates of files are quite equals, I'm afraid it's not necessary.

Re: wings 0.98.09, rpm and wiki
Do you mean the red hightlighted version (0.98.08e) or the version on the top(0.98.09)?etheral walker wrote:Thanks for the wiki tips, and yes, I can make a RPM, but I crash really often.

On the wings3d-page it says, that the 0.98.08e release is the latest stable version, so i thought it may crash less. dunno
In each case a RPM version would be cool ( a stable one would be even cooler ).

Sounds a bit too optimistic for me: Just tried wings-0.98.07a-2.i586.rpm from http://www.waldosworld.org/linux.htmpontiac wrote: Do you know how to make a rmp-package from this?
So we have at least one newby-proof release of wings for linux.
Installing worked fine, also both libesdl0 and libesdl0-devel rpms and the erlang rpm.
After starting wings as described on the wings3d page, erlang worked but wings segfaults on my box.
Compiling from sources (wings-0.98.09) failed.
This is on Mandrake 9.1
As a sidenote, is it possible to use blender for modding? I'm speaking of blender 2.26, the open source release.
This version only exports .blend file format, dunno whether it's convertable to VS.

I don't know a way to export from blender, but if you can export as obj or 3ds it is a start. As a sidenote, is it possible to use blender for modding? I'm speaking of blender 2.26, the open source release.

Then you can convert it with the obj2xml/3ds2xml-scripts to xmesh and equip weapons/docks/logos in the texturizer (a bit outdated, see hellcatvs first post in this thread)
or
you import it into wings and add these things there.
Or you just use wings direct if possible (the easiest solution)
Pontiac
PS: i for myself would never use a renderer (like blender;though a really good renderer) for modelling (yes i know, blender is also a modeller, but i have really bad experience with it ).

doesn't work with 98.08e
I just compiled 98.08e, and Icannot launch wings with it::
[jer@jer1 wings-0.98.08e]$ erl -pa $ESDL_PATH/ebin ebin -run wings_start start_halt
Erlang (BEAM) emulator version 5.2 [source] [hipe]
Eshell V5.2 (abort with ^G)
1> Segmentation fault (core dumped)
[jer@jer1 wings-0.98.08e]$
I tried as root, "just to see", but same problem,

I don't think bjorng (=main programmer+maintainer) will make/send you binaries, because he is very busy with the programming of wings itself (see also the comment on the download page).
A mail to the maintainer of the linux-download page may be more successful:

http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepage ... suites.htm
there's a nice looking import export plugin for wings models in blender
