Heh well I've been away for a few days, stayin at a friends house, and havent checked the forums. The Jump Gate thing I made was just for fun, I was thinking of Event Horizon when I made it, kinda like the Jump Gate to Hell...
The other ships are from Lexx, and the only Jump Gate I know of in Lexx was the the black hole like annomily that goes between the light and dark universes.
Heh I am trying to learn to UV Map, and when I auto mapped that Jump Gate it came up with 422 different peices in the map... Heh some were inteligible but most of it was just a bunch of random looking bunch of faces...
Oh well, I am glad you guys like my stuff.

www.moonpod.com Play Starscape some time, it does have space creatures that live in jump nodes.
And the Lexx stuff rawks.

Keep in mind that wings has two UV mapping methods: project and unwrap. These correspond to the auto-segmentation methods "projection" and "feature detection".
For stuff like spaceships (and this jumpgate), I find that projection usually works best. You probably want the main front faces of the torus as one uv chart segment, and the back faces as another one. Not quite sure what to do about the spikes.
A problem I have with auto UV is that I can't find a way to manually assign faces to uv chart segments higher than 8 or so. It's a problem because wings often uses really high chart numbers for major segments of the model, which makes it impossible to assign additional faces to most automatically detected segments.
I'd try working around this problem by doing "segment by->projection" and then manually selecting the front faces and assigning them to UV Chart 1, and selecting the back faces and assigning them to UV Chart 2. Then do "continue->projection" and hope it doesnt cough it back up.
