Taglines and logos and officialness, oh my :)
There appears to be general agreement that our existing logo is bland, and that the existing tag text "Vega Strike the 3D Space Simulator that allows you to trade and bounty hunt in a vast universe. Can you face the dangers and decisions that await..." is... well you know that saying about how when you don't have anything nice to say you should say nothing at all? Yeah.
So, before too much further work is done on logos, I think we should settle the matter of the replacement text to accompany it.
The development team is leaning towards the form
INTROTEXT
VegaStrike (as logo)
TAGTEXT
as exemplified by our current top contender(with VegaStrike filling in for the name-as-logo):
Before success must come survival
VegaStrike
The Void Beckons
Please let us know if you have any strong feelings for or against this choice.
Other suggestions for a poster/logo/header text include:
strangelet
VegaStrike
TALES OF THE VOID
Pincushionman
VegaStrike
. C O N Q U E R . S P A C E .
VegaStrike
Fight. Trade. Explore. WIN.
Dual
VegaStrike
Trade : Explore : Fight
Charlieg
VegaStrike
Adventure into the Void.
Silverain
VegaStrike
Adventures of the Void
CubOfJudah'sLion
VegaStrike
Legends of the Void
None of the above make use of an intro, but it's just as valid to use just tag or just intro as to use both, provided they still convey whatever message is desired. Likewise, whatever text is used can be either incorporated into the logo (becoming more a poster than logo at that point, but that's fine by me - almost certainly makes a better web-header that way) or kept visually distinct. In either case, it might prove nice to have either a textless or perhaps a distinct and more symbolic logo for VS to use in addition to a logofied name (think Golden arches vs. the normal stylized [Golden Arches]cDonald's ) - but that's a digression from the discussion of text
Some of these, "Adventures of the Void", "Legends of the Void" and "Tales of the Void" seem more suited as candidates for a subtitle rather than taglines due, in part, to their not being verb phrases.

Although I could live with The Void Beckons, in my opinion it comes second best to strangelet's Tales of the Void.
But, I appreciate that it is kindof short, and could do with an intro ... so I came up with a couple.
Odyssey version:
One man's journey is another man's epic.
Vegastrike
TALES OF THE VOID
Grandiose Version:
One man's life is another man's legend.
Vegastrike
TALES OF THE VOID
Noir Version:
One man's struggle is another man's story.
Vegastrike
TALES OF THE VOID
My preference is in reverse order (last I like best). Namely because the player's adventures are unlikely to be that high profile, and I believe the game will retain the noir feel it has, rather than a grandiose 'star trek' feel.
So, that's my preference (by a long margin over the suggested):
One man's struggle is another man's story.
Vegastrike
TALES OF THE VOID

Before success must come survival
VegaStrike
The Void Beckons
I think I favour this overall.
'Before success'
Implying achievement in whatever you do - merc, pirate, merchant, enforcer etc.
'must come survival'
You have to survive in a hostile universe to make your acheivement.
'VegaStrike'
Well, it is our name. A good logo needed.
'The Void Beckons'
Void - space. Very open ended. No adventures/tales limiting the game to storytelling/linear game.
Dan.a's suggestions (to me) would be great for the comic.

well, perhaps to clarify -
I really don't think "Tales of the void" is a tagline. It's a subtitle. Given that the title "VegaStrike" is rather low in semantic content, a subtitle is not unwarranted, but subtitles and taglines aren't really that interchangeable, and when they are, I think it's the taglines that migrate towards subtitles more than the other way. Perhaps we should be discussing an appropriate subtitle as well (in which case, I'd be quite pleased by something like "Tales of the Void")
When I see "TALES OF THE VOID" I see
VegaStrike:TALES OF THE VOID
the same way I see
Red Alert 2:Yuri's Revenge
not as one sees
Alien
"In space no one can hear you scream"
Come to think of it, we probably should have a subtitle...

Come to think of it, it seems I was seeing TALES OF THE VOID more of a subtitle.
But I think in our case, a subtitile and a tagline are mutually exclusive. At least, "TALES OF THE VOID" and "The Void Beckons" are not completely harmonious. "It Beckons" however fits nicely, and I rather like the ambiguity introduced.
Before success must come survival
VegaStrike : TALES OF THE VOID
"It Beckons"
That said, I appreciate that I may have just bastardised something that took you or hellcat hours to get perfect, and I still prefer mine, but this is still an improvement (again, in my opinion).

I think I am in agreement with the general attitude that "VegaStrike: Tales of the Void" is probably the best actual title.
From a graphics designers point of view tho... generaly taglines look better under the logo, i.e.
Vega Strike: Tales of the Void
:tagline:
Also, since there are so many different taglines around, perhaps it would be a good idea to leave the actual tagline to the graphics designer? then if we have a competition or something, we can also judge the logo designs on the tagline content. Same thing with the layout, it would generally be a good idea to leave the layout of the logo to the designer's discetion, and judge it on whether it looks good how they do it.
Vega Strike: Tales of the Void gets my vote for title, tho.

Remember jacks, quality not quantity. The only one worth mentioning is the one Halleck points out. Reading through the list, not a single one of the others is really suitable as a VS tagline. They're either (mostly) too abstract or (the rest) too crap.
You surely could have filtered the rest out yourself.

VegaStrike: Beneath the Gilded Streets
VegaStrike: A poverty of purity

A) They aren't taglines, they're subtitles.charlieg wrote:Reading through the list, not a single one of the others is really suitable as a VS tagline.
B) I think you took that post far too seriously - reread the top: "some of which I post because I like them, some because they amuse me". I will readily admit to having a sense of humor likely not shared by many - and these were posted less as particular suggestions than as phrases I found interesting. Some of them I do actually like, and think would make decent subtitles, but that wasn't the all-consuming purpose of the post - I mean, did you really think that "The Good, The Bad, and the Dodo" was intended as a serious suggestion?

Original, to the best of my knowledge.Halleck wrote:Ooh, I like that one. Is that original, or an allusion to something?jackS wrote:VegaStrike: Upon the Coldest Sea
Most of the borrowings, parodies, or other forms of allusions were made fairly blatantly, it's just a question of how obvious or obscure the reference source was. If you aren't familiar with the reference, it's obviously not as amusing Then again, it may also be the case that if you aren't me, it's not as amusing

Hey, no need to give him crap about it. This is partly a brainstorming thread, and he was brainstorming. I see nothing wrong with that.charlieg wrote:Remember jacks, quality not quantity. I laughed when I first read that, due to the way it was worded. However I do agree that it would make a fitting title for the user guide, as players will no doubt often find that their ship is in need of repair. : )dandandaman wrote:VegaStrike and the art of spaceship repair

It would be a humorous title, while still being practical for the guide, if not as the main title, then at least as a subtitle in one of the chapters/sections.

Actually this would be a cool title for a strategy-guide or something similar ... so it could be taken at least 50% seriously.JackS wrote:....
