Apparently it was a demo of a yet unfinished application. Here is an earlier project by some of the same researchers with code and libraries available but it's not like it has a gnu stamped on it so it doesn't look like we will see this in Blender anytime soon. http://www.faculty.idc.ac.il/arik/site/geoSemantic.asp

Yeah, I thought so at first, but re-examining the video I saw the imperfections. Hardly noticeable though. So the algorithm seems real, only amazingly good.
