3-Sweep, 3D Tech demo

Pretty impressive demo here. I don't know if there is any product or open source project built around this.

Wow. The inpainting is also quite impressive. Too bad the link is broken because it would be nice to read more about it.

Apparently it was a demo of a yet unfinished application. Here is an earlier project by some of the same researchers with code and libraries available but it's not like it has a gnu stamped on it so it doesn't look like we will see this in Blender anytime soon.

Yeah, I thought so at first, but re-examining the video I saw the imperfections. Hardly noticeable though. So the algorithm seems real, only amazingly good.

I wonder how hard it would be to make a workalike program, and if it's patented.

I'd like to see this work in the wild. My preferred 3D modeling software is Lego. It's not very soft.

Well it work from a university or some educational center so it may end up being that way. Hard to tell.
