3D Cockpit anyone?

Since vs has only a 2D cockpit, and I'm on the ogre branch which multiplies vs' features by factor 100, it is possible to have a 3D cockpit.
But I need an artist who creates me one.
Ok I have already one, but it is very crappy.

So are YOU willed to create one?

Well I had started work on a 3d cockpit some time ago:

But it still has a way to go before it looks decent.

VERY GOOD
what it needs is some room for displays (radar etc.) which will be mapped upon.
maybe you could add in front of the player 2 screens, it needn't to be planar, but should be able to put a rectangle on it.

you could also put screens/room for switches on the side of the cockpit, cause the player will be able to use the coolie hat.

and the texture of the cockpit, plz.

thx in forward,

VS has support for 3D cockpits already, definitely. I'm sure klauss will confirm this. Sadly I only know of 1 that was ever made (by strangelet).

Sadly the links will most likely be dead, but I think it's in SVN somewhere, right pyramid?

Indeed, the cockpit by strangelet is in svn and is called light_cockpit.cpt.
3D cockpits are disabled by default. Just replace the no-cockpit in a vessel in units.csv with light_cockpit.cpt to get it working.

Ya, but you don't have the rendertotexture feature, so you can't have a radar displayed on a screen inside the cockpit.
But good to know that vs knows already about 3d cockpits. That makes easier to implement them.

Whenever you get mygui, cegui or whichever gui that does have render to texture stable in all the platforms, we should integrate it into VS so we complete 3D cockpit support.

But yes, overlay controls on top of 3D cockpits work very nicely, there's no reason not to use them.
