New SHIP FOR CIVIL
The Rhincodon (mass and cargo capacity between mule and plowshare)
-passenger capacity
-faster(long acceleration curves) but same "agility" than plowshare
-light armed
-expensive than LIHW manufacturing !!!!!

ah - well, my bad - on 2 levels
This can't be a Rhincodon - but it can be a Capybara http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/wiki/Vessel:Capybara
I should have explained what I meant by "jump ferry" so, this is my fault --
Jump ferry in the VS context is a craft that specializes in transporting non-jump-capable craft through jump points. So it'd be built very differently - more of a superstructure with a jump drive masquerading as a ship, covered in mooring points
As a Capybara -
More windows would be great, if possible. Adding some smaller windows in other places could make the larger ones appear more like floor-ceiling observational windows than next-to-your-seat airplane windows, to give a greater sense of scale. If we want to get the feel of an interplanetary
metro/subway/tram/whathaveyou then we may want to invoke a feeling that there are hordes and hordes of people on each of these vessels.
(insert broken record "Retros would be nice")
For a high-volume passenger transport that makes a number of stops in-system, and is too big to dock internally to a lot of other objects, it'd be great to see some sort of very explicit hint at an interface for an external docking mechanism.
As for armament, I'd actually expect both the Capybara and Rhincodon to generally be unarmed unless operating in a really, really rough neighborhood. Even then, they're large, low-accel craft, so they're not going to try to dogfight - they'd be better off with an escort. Maybe some models will come with turrets to scare off the riff-raff, but I'd like to see a lot of these ship out unarmed.
