In my opinion, planet lighting should only be affected by the sun and nothing else. As it is now, just a little tiny ship blowing up will light up an entire nearby planet. It doesn't really look right to me.

thats true. it looks absurd when a planet is flashing from a nearby spacebattle. my ship is godly, but not godly enough to light up a planet and pwn an aera fleet at once
