hey, nice to see multiplayer up and running.
are there any stat on how many players are there or when the high-time is ?
seemed like i was alone, but not sure if chat is global.
Might be interesting to link ingame chat to an irc channel and vice-versa,
possibly the #vegastrike on freenode. To get people ingame talking to people only in irc, to increase chances of life-help, and to get more people aware of multiplayer working.
Nice to see it available as default multiplayer in vegastrike svn trunk already,
if there's no release in the next two months, i'd suggest packing together a vs multiplayer.5.0.x.alpha.zip for win/linu or something like that before then and get the word out to freegamer etc.
Seemed like it is working well enough for people to get a look at it and involved in the community, which in turn would help getting closer to an actual release ;)

We are really close to an actual release. I think we (myself included) just got a little side tracked with working on longer term stuff as we tend to do. :)

Though there might still be some holdups with administrative privileges too, unless Klauss has all of those now.

But either way we are close and should really just focus on cranking out a full beta release, imo.

No, klauss and I can both do a file release now as he was added as a project admin. The holdup is mostly is getting last minute code in and tested, data tweaks, and I would really love to see a nice 3d cockpit for the llama but I doubt that will go in. Besides, klauss has been away for two weeks for RL reasons and I don't want to attempt a linux release myself. Windows I can do.. but I would probably crew up the linux release :oops: Plus I want to get the link to the tharin server into the client before release as well and I just have not had the chance to do it (or look for where it actually is) do to RL and juggling other items around here. First of which being blog and news access to announce a new release on the main page.

i made a few credits by trading, now i wanted to buy a new ship on one of the bio-worlds in oldzie system right next to the starting system, but everytime i hit the buy button see space-view of the planet and my ship explode and then get the death screen, then the last save with my old ship is loaded. is there a trick to it ?

i tried buying a plowshare, and a dodo, same result.

running svn i checked out yesterday :

today it won't even let me log in.
I always "succcessfull connection, waiting to login", then after a minute or so
"Error when joining game, The server said : Login failure"
I tried several times, a few hours back and now again after playing singleplayer for a while,
but still the exact same error.
I get a different error (register at ...tharin.uni.cc) when i enter a wrong password, so that's not it.

I think the register is the accountsever py script kicking. The actual server could be down... its done it before though :(

server seems to be back up =)
edit : i still blow up when trying to buy a ship though =\
tried buying different ships on different planets, but i always blow up.
if anyone wants to debug, pm me for username/password.

it seems since the server started working again i lost all upgrades on my ship. i bought new reactor, capacitor and jumpdrive (around level 4 each) but jumppoint says "low energy". there don't seem to be any spec capacitors for sale in the system i'm in, so i guess i'm stuck here can can't try other system =(

made a new account, earned 140k, bought hyena on atlantis, blew up directly after clicking buy button.

Something is seriously screwy for you then... So this is directly after the buy click or is it at launch? I don't see how it could be at buy... was there anything in your error logs or do you think something might have corrupted the games python files?

*EDIT* What version of vs are you using. .5 or svn?

It's safe to say that ghoulsblade is definitely using SVN. (Or haven't you read many of his recent posts?)

the "Rcvd TCP: CMD_KILL " is sent from the client to the server for suicide if i understand correctly. maybe a lag problem (current ship gets destroyed before server sends new ship) ? not sure where the server is, i'm in europe.

I tried to log in and couldn't, got a network error message so could be lag. We really need some serious error checking in the networking code and some way of showing the amount of lag ingame and serverstatus message at the site.

@ghoulsblade I see what you mean and it sucks. I haven't run across anyone else that has this problem so it may be a real pain to track down. I hope not though. Anyway, go ahead and put up a bug report on the vs bug tracker on the project page. I am going to play around with it at home and see what happens. If my easy install has python that is.. may have to build everything from scratch or rebuild apache at least.

Been playing on tharin server a few days, I really like, I am thrilled to see multi player running.

I am having a problem though, and I am not sure where to put it. I am not sure if it is game, server or platform related... I think it is server related, but I I know very little about V.S. or the server, other than I started playing a few days back.

When I sign in, and accept a mission. I complete the mission, but it never "goes" away. Even after completing it if I view my active missions it is always there. If I leave the system and come back in I can complete the mission over and over and get paid for it... It now says I have 4 active missions... I have completed all of them, One of them several times....

Running on Linux Mint (a variant of Ubuntu), on a really old computer.

Minor bug, not sure if game, server or platform specific. I think server, so I post here first.

When I accept a mission and complete it. If I leave the solar system and come back... I can complete the mission over and over again. It never acknowledges my completion... other than paying me each time.

Its a known but hard to reproduce bug in the client, maybe easier to reproduce from the server but not sure.

Buying ships is kinda a hack as it is. It has to do with the assumption throughout vega Strike that 1 User = 1 Player/cockpit = 1 Unit. Changing stats of an existing unit is not easy, so a new Unit is created to replace the old one.

In single player mode, this is relatively transparent--you stay docked to the base, and your Cockpit's "parent" unit starts pointing to the new unit.

However, in multiplayer mode, this is made more complicated by the fact that units have ID numbers (serial in VS terminology). When the units are swapped, the server could choose to use the same logic as before--assigning it even the same ID number, but then you'll get into serious trouble since the Client will be out-of-sync.

The way we overcome this is to kill the ship on the client, and then respawn, which loads a saved game--hopefully in the new ship. If you're wondering why we don't just make a specialized message called "SWITCHSHIP" or something, you're right--that could theoretically be added; however, it would require duplicating some of the respawn/load logic anyway.

It does save before killing you, so you shouldn't lose anything, but when you respawn, you *should* be in the newly bought ship.

The fact that you didn't get your new ship is a bug, though it may depend on Mets's server configuration.

@ace that is actually the bug ghoulsblade2 is having. He had me log onto his account to see what was going on. As far as I know he is the only one to have been affected by this.

just tried again (ubuntu 10.10, 32 bit), and it's perfectly reproducible:
first renamed old /home/username/.vegastrike to make sure i start clean.

made a few traderuns selling stuff i bought on atlantis to neighboring systems until i have around 200k credits.
now back on atlantis, from mission menu or similar : netplay : save, go to shipyards, select plowshare, click buy, BOOM.
deathscreen, i press : and see my old llama back in the hangar.

how can i be the only one having this ?
has anyone else ever actually tried buying a ship in multiplayer with fresh checkout and /home/username/.vegastrike ?
vanilla svn, even renamed my old /home/username/.vegastrike before starting.

Upgraded server to latest svn, 13032, and upgraded to TeamSpeak3. New address is tharin.uni.cc:9987. Devs, feel free to use if you need to voice conference, etc.
