Any HOWTO for setting up multiplayer?

I tried the server listed in the "Custom Host Vega Strike Server" thread, but the account server doesn't appear to be working right now. I also had a look at the cgi-accountserver folder and started customizing things but figured instead of trying to hack my way to a working multiplayer I might check and see if there were any instructions in this forum or on the wiki. A search of the wiki found nothing and looking through the threads in this forum didn't seem to find anything either. Does anyone have instructions for setting up a LAN server?

Well, it turns out that as far as just running the multiplayer, you just run vegaserver. Now as far as configuring it, I'm not sure what to do. I had started in the cgi-accountserver directory thinking this might have something to do with configuring the server but I think I was on the wrong track. I did get one error when starting the server:

!!! ERROR : opening dynamic universe file dynaverse.dat !!!

This file doesn't appear to exist on my linux box (updatedb and then locate dynaverse.dat revealed no file by that name). So there appear to be two things missing in order to get a good start on hosting a server: firstly a dynaverse.dat file and secondly somewhere to edit configuration settings for multiplayer. That said, the server does run and players can connect to it - just a bit of a bland playing field with a single system and no ability to adjust the starting credits for customizing ships. Anyone have any suggestions?

For anyone reading this, vegaserver ships with the binary distributions and if you are using svn, you just have to make vegaserver if you didn't already make all.

have you checked the full svn tree on sourceforge for that dynaverse.dat file also i do believe that there is not much functionality in the current server lots of things just don't work yet ace123 has not had much time to work on it so the multi-player experience is very limited.

Enjoy the Choice :)

With the 0.5.0 release from tarball the vegaserver works out of the box with no error messages - so I guess the dynaverse thing is something about how my svn copy of VS is set up. With the 0.5.0 binary server I am so far stuck with just the deathmatch system (a single planet). I read a bunch of threads and have set up a file based account server on this box and can create accounts with it - but can't get the client to connect using it. Does anyone know what configuration I need to do to get that working?

That all there is ATM not sure if ace123 has got jumps working yet.As for getting the client to hook up i have no idea  But in the absence of ace a PM to one of the guys that set up there own server may be productive.

Enjoy the Choice :)

The jumps were working in SiroDj's server, I am pretty sure if we get a hold of him, were can set up the server elsewhere.
