Aeran Battle Fleet attacks Oldziey! Confederation Defends!

A home for tales of personal killcounts and engagements between vast armadas, as well as the odd recounting of that time you saw an alien capship taking out a mining base while trying to parallel park.

Aeran Battle Fleet attacks Oldziey! Confederation Defends!

Post by JimiJons »

Alright, it all started a couple weeks back, when tons of Aeran fighters and interceptors began to show up in Oldziey. Bounties, Defend missions, Patrols, Escorts, all filled with Aeran fighters. I kept my way steady, dogfighting Aeran craft every now and than with my suped-up Llama. Eventually, more and more fighters began to appear, sometimes 20 at a time. So greatly outnumbered, my Llama, even with cloaking and the best upgrades that money can buy, began to die. I decided that some smackdown needed to be brought. I opened the can of whoop-ass with my Mil-spec Tesla. Every Aeran craft succumbed to the devastating firepower of my 2 dozen Beam turrets and 6 high-powered anti-capital Superbeams. After killing about 63 interceptors, I docked back at a planet for a refueling and rearming. When I launched again, some 30 Aeran Agesipolis-class capital ships suddenly appeared (obviously jumped in whilst I was docked) and filled up a lot of system space. I, along with miscellaneous Andolian, Purist, and High-born ships, began to assault the carriers. The Kahans and Clydesdales probably had the most luck. I was nervous at first of the odds against me, but I quickly discovered that the attack range of all of the carriers was extremely short, and that all of my beam weaponry far out-shot the carriers. Within 20 minutes of continuous combat, I had destroyed 8 carriers, with another 7 destroyed by friendly forces (or jumped out... I really wasn't paying any attention to what my friendlies were doing. I'm sure they killed at least 2. We lost a couple Clydesdales though to some interceptors and carriers.) Soon, another Andolian Tesla and multiple confederation ships jumped into the system and began to enter the fray. Hostile targeting was the only option I had, or else it'd take to long to cycle through all of the torpedoes, missiles, cargo, pilots, and friendly ships everywhere. A lot of the Aeran ships began to hop away, hitting SPEC drives and running (from me) apparently. I chased down another 3 ships, but on the third, I neared it to within 6,000 meters right before I killed it, and suddenly it's explosive blast wave, rubble, remains, and flying fragments smashed into my cruiser and blew it up almost instantly (at least I assume that is what happened).

I launch, and suddenly they jump in.

Moving to engage.

Bastard is going to die.

Second bastard is going to die. Much Bigger image.

This guy explodes RIGHT AFTER I took the shot. The explosion was massive. Covered the entire screen.

Image
They bleed Green smoke when they're about to die. Might be a little hard to see because of the size, but this guy is bleeding badly.

Image
If you look at the radar at the bottom left-hand corner, you'll see just how grand the scale of the battle is. I counted 33 Aeran carriers, and 27 friendlies by the time I died.

Image
This is the bastard who's wreckage I crashed into. This shot shows my beam turrets removing his shields, preparing for the kill.

Image
The same bastard who's massive explosion kills me, now taking the full brunt of my weaponry.

damn.. that would suck.. you seemed pretty far away too, how would its shockwave/shrapnel hit you so hard from such a distance?

Well, I moved in closer after the shots were taken, but with explosions like this:

yeah...

I like the realism in this game.. but.. :P some times its a bit to gritty..
like trying to dock my goddard with an asteroid fighter base.. 30 meter square peg... 1 meter round hole :P

some things are realistic.. but missing the integeral part that makes them useful...
a short ranged weapon is nice and all.. but destroying a ship an inch from your nose... is suicide.

You were lucky. Maybe the 30 Agesipolis were 30 Leonidas and then they destroyed you instantly.
In universe self-describing one-liner which is pretty pathetic.

Good story, even better with screen shots. Thank you!

There are two speeds in combat: stopped, and as fast as you can go. Unless you run into something, going fast keeps you alive more often than stopping.

That explosion is totally awesome. O_O Wow, that really sucks that you died. Probably should've pulled out when you were ahead.
