rescue mission save pilot from luddites

A home for tales of personal killcounts and engagements between vast armadas, as well as the odd recounting of that time you saw an alien capship taking out a mining base while trying to parallel park.

rescue mission save pilot from luddites

Post by whatch1 »

I was hauling a full load of food to the KlKK fighter Barracks wanting to check out what upgrade i could get cheap at the weapon surplus store. what a load off crap they had. i sold off the food and went to the mission computer and there it was . It seemed to be such a simple mission rescue the lihl(sp) pilot near the cardell jump point from two luddites 17500 credites that should be an easy job........
I was loaded for bear I thought my ship has a milspec heavy tractor, disrupter, image missles, 120km advanced targeting system and pair off meson blasters i had the perfect ship for this mission i accepted launched targeted the jump point......

I had custers last thought "look all the indians." I think i jumped into a cap ship fire fight I managed to get a lock on the rescuee half a second before somethig vaporized him and shut down all my weapons i cycled through the nearest targets there were no more luddites but there were torpedoes everywhere. there was a cloud of mixed ordanace on radar screen mabee forty moving blips I maxed thottle ducked under one torpedo and over another headed for the jump point still accelerating in spec lucky to be alive

That's the last rescue mission I ever accept.

If you're using 0.4.3, you should be aware of certain silly things...

1. Ships spawn near jump points, usually when you're 20 km away or so. These can be friendly fighters, transports, friendly capships... Or enemies. Sometimes whole battles materialize. If you've killed a bunch of pirates and you're in confed territory, for example, you might get a pirate corvette, some Hyenas and/or Plowshares, and a Kahan and its escort. I recommend dropping out of SPEC when your SPEC counter drops to 5, to make sure that your shields are at least there if anything attacks.

2. Human capships tend to have a certain arrangement of weapons. On light capships, there are PD turrets that generally can't hurt you much if you have decent shields. However, most light capships also have main beam weapons, which do a lot of damage - enough to destroy your fighter and escape pod entirely in less than a second. Stay the hell away from those beams.

3. A disruptor and a pair of meson guns doesn't really qualify as "loaded for bear", especially when the bear may come in the form of a redeemer packing quad ktek beams (thanks to some bug involving limitation of mountable weapons). I recommend ion beams on light mounts (and medium if they support light weapons), and the best thing you can get on heavy mounts. If you're using a keyboard or combining bolt and beam weapons, autotracking is heavily recommended. Also, imrec missiles are easily fooled by enemy ECM; use heatseekers instead, or cluster missiles if you have a heavy-missile mountpoint available.

4. If you're still flying the Llama... The Llama can be a good fighter, but it doesn't do very well when surrounded by heavily armed opponents. Boosting the shields and getting better armor and a better hull can help, but it's generally advisable not to take your merchant ships into a fight - or a rescue mission, for that matter.

rescue mission save pilot from luddites p2

It was posted as a true story the bartenders could recount

yes i still run 0.4.3 buggy as it is. i just launched at 720 and still had my landing spec velocity of 21895 in v until a microcrash restarted my mission from scratch

My lama's upgraded to the best equpment i can find at this point, although I haven't fired a shot in my current game.

After posted incident I had near head on collision with large sized hauler I bounced off with no damage, he on the other hand lost cargo.

upgrades

Confed millspec:
iso metal armor
Polymer hull
Reinforced hull
heavy tractor beam
Radar: Starscanner 2600
Level 3 Reactor
Shield 4 level 3
Shield 4 capacitor
Advanced repair system

next upgrades will be afterburner and multi thruster mods

Ther's no point having a shootout you can't win if you can run.
