I found reading and figuring out what some of the buttons do educational. Now need a synthesizer to create high quality sounds ready to import into a modern game.

I was recommended this as a more advanced update.
http://www.bfxr.net/
Bfxr has moved in the direction of increased complexity and range of expression. All the buttons that you know and love are here, but there are some new things as well:

5 new waveforms : triangle, breaker, tan, whistle, and pink noise.
3 new filters : compression, harmonics, and bitcrusher.
Ability to lock parameters during mutation/randomization.
Expanded pitch-jumping abilities - good for arpeggiation effects.
Visualisation
Mixer
Keeps your sounds and mixes in persistant lists.
Can reverse synths
Ability to link directly to sounds
I can't try it myself as I'm at an older computer right now.

Well, it's kind of fun, but it barely handles semi-random arcade buzz. And there's already Csound. Though may be interesting as a "quick preview".

It's far from a real synth. I want a better envelope generator for starters but it's fun to fool around with and you could definitely knock up a couple of working sounds with it.
I finally got around to try out bfxr. You can dial in a sound and link to the pattern dirctly:
