Prelim Shield Sounds - Possible Track

Post by yuzienborn »

I've done some initial work on a variety of sounds for shield hits.
The rough draft is all 3 sounds in one file. Light, medium, and heavy hit.
This currently has no studio finishing (limiting, export ogg, etc.).

I think one of the tracks I've produced might fit the game. Let me know what you guys (and gals?) think.
This melancholy track would, of course, be intended only for deep space cargo flights.

I have many more tracks released, and would strip the vocals from them if you feel one fit:

Please forgive the site, I've only put a few hours into it so far.

I would also like to mention... wow. You people have done some wonderful things with this game so far, and I havent even seen anything more recent than 0.50.

It is a decent sound. But maybe i have bad ears, I think the sounds for hits should be more different. For example, make the heavy hits louder bangs punctated by silence, while the weaker hits keep grating on the surface of the ship.

When you say punctuated by silence, do you mean that there should be multiple hit sounds per audio file? Like the heavy hit has a few booms?
I'll work on some variations tonight :)

Well there can be one boom per file but silence after the boom .. So that the engine doesn't play the two booms without a break in between.

OH =( lol. Well the new files are built upon my misunderstanding of your reply.

The wav file was to be considered as three separate files. I should have said that more clearly on my first post.
The intent is to replace damage that only affects shields || armor- with different sounds than the obviously metallic 'KRUNG' currently in gameplay.

The plan (if you guys like the idea):
Make light, medium, and hard shield hit noises.
Make light, medium, and hard armor hit noises.
Leave the current damage noise (KRUNG? thats what it sounds like, i dont know the real filename) for the hull hits.

To me, the KRUNG noise, though awesome, gets repetitive.
I would also prefer to hear - if I'm getting hit with a bean, or a nuclear missile.

So, here are some new sounds for the shield hits.
http://whyareyoulistening.com/VegaStrik ... xport2.wav

I have added more hits per BANG, to possibly reduce amount of times the sample needs to be played.
I have also dried it out (reverb, delay gone) as per specifications I just read in the sticky post by Chuck.

I also have two more tracks you guys might like for VS:
http://whyareyoulistening.com/VegaStrik ... veseq2.mp3
http://whyareyoulistening.com/musics/Th ... ackout.mp3

Please give me some input on this stuff mates, I can't change it to fit what you're looking for if you dont.

IMVVVHO, these 2 fit VS very well, both for the kind of atmosphere they create and for matching the music already in game.

Both of those tracks are very good in my estimation. They are nicely post produced, though in one of them the bigger drums aren't as clear as they ought to be, just a little bit watery.

I agree :) the drums are a little off in the SomewhereWill track. half of it is from a korg triton, and I never quite got the timing right. I'll clean the drums up and resubmit later this week ^_^

Your drums are synthesized?
Kinda trying to get my hands on the Waldorf Blofeld. Was thinking about the Largo VST, but then I realized that I wanted a desktop unit cause it would suit where my studio is going.

The drums in those tracks are combinations of a Korg Triton, Reason, Ableton Live, NI's Kontakt, and recorded hand drums at mah crib.

To the above poster, yes.
Would anybody find anything useful to do with this. It's not my style really, but I just got a new hardware unit, so I thought I test out its phenomenal sounds.

Very very nice prog house track, Psycodeine :) What new piece of equipment did you get?

Ok, about Sunwillcomebackout. I'll take the child's voice off the opening, and I'm thinking you are referring to the hand drums, or is it the main bass kick? Anyway, once I get a response on that question i'll edit it and resubmit ^_^

Fendorin- are you saying, ("guys, make more ambient music !") ?
