Well, right now I wouldn't know, but try to read all the lines of those factions and see if they give you some inspiration; in the LIHW case, what guided me was the "Ayup. Yes indeedy. Yuup. Nothing. Lots and lots of nothing."
About ISO, a line near the end of file made me ROFL: "Help! Help! I'm being oppressed." That line alone makes me think that it might be ok to overdo them just a bit as a slight comical relief. But of course, they're really serious about it all, so they're everything but clowns.

Also read the faction descriptions in the wiki, they also guided us well in some cases.

Yeh I think I'm gonna do ISO  . There's a lot of socialist presence around here, y'know? And of course, I did read their descriptions in the wiki, but for example, purists have a Stub article on them, so I couldn't think about how to talk like them  . Checking their lines sounds a good idea, too. Thanks for the help. :)

Also, now that I checked the Forsaken, I think they could be my next project after I finish ISO :). I can imagine them as sad people, with low and hopeless voices.

I would be happy to help and can work on it a few days from now, after I finish a prior commitment.
Fendorin, do you still need someone to listen to your voice work and pick the best take from each line?

*ANY* native's opinion would have helped the choice, but while you were busy as you told us, we got *NONE*
And by "native" I mean anyone more native than neo-latin speakers like Fendorin, MC707 and me!
Even Canadians! (I know you're there, loki! I saw you browsing this topic right now! :P )

As long as your networking works somehow, there's no need to run vs to hear the current Shapers' voice, just around 4 MB of download (http://olografix.org/groucho/vs/shaperdraft.zip) and your favorite ogg player will serve you :P

Ok some comments i like the enunciation but several seem to cut off in the middle of the last word which would be alright if there was a static crackle to mask that and justify the cutoff. This is just a first impression  next run thru will be a bit more critical. After i setup a proper play list for SMPlayer that new GUI for mplayer check it out much better exposure to all it's options and commands 8)

Darn, I tried a sharp cut at the end as suggested in the guides to minimize file size, and usually it's just the last sound that can get a little trimmed also because of the radio effect cutoff; it's what I've done for all my voices as well...
Anyway I still have the full recording, so just choose the best ones and say if they need a more tolerant trim, and I'll redo the whole post-production where needed.

Will do and i will note if the ones i pick need that sloppy cut 8) worked on and i am glad that it's a post-production artifact as the voice and accent work for the Shapers.Anyone remember the two wee guides in Willow and there french-canadian accent so does that fit one of the factions as shall we say it would very easy for me to do  for some county bumpkins or low cast types if so i will record a sample for a bit of comic relief been quite a while since i did any voice work a couple guys i know have done voices for cartoons for a few animation studios here in Ottawa,One of my buddies was a production assistant on "Ripping Friends" as well a couple other titles.

I always wondered what accent those crazy pixies in "Willow" were using.

There are lots of factions left to voice. I think that comic relief is indispensible and that humor is a sign of sentience. Note that every faction has some kind of humor in their lines, except for extremists like the Luddites.

If you want to sound countrified (or at least country-fried), what if you made a male voice for the merchant guild citizen? The merchant guild citizens are the 32d century equivalent of truck drivers, many of whom (in the US anyhow) talk on their radios in a Southern US accent. A male voice would sound good alongside my wife's North Carolina accent that she did for the female merchant guild citizens. The game (theoretically) assigns a gender to each ship, and having voices for both genders (where applicable) is (1) a worthy goal (2) a technical problem that will be solved quicker with a pair of voice sets to test it and (3) increases variety and immersion for the game.

Team,

I finally got a chance to review the files that CLoneWolf made. For those lines where he made multiple versions, which was most of them, here is a list of the ones I preferred. My priority for choosing was clarity (I intentionally listened without the text script available) followed by tone (appropriate emotion and word emphasis). Where applicable, I added some comments or observations:

shaper_absurd-clearly-you-must-think3
shaper_all-proceed-within-my1
shaper_are-your-deficiency-natural3
shaper_cold-dead-ship2 (very little difference between these 3)
shaper_contraband-detected1
shaper_docking-operation-begun1
shaper_docking-operation-complete3
shaper_give-up-i-ve-already-played-out2
shaper_im-not-amused-by-poor-liar3
shaper_in-death-alone-is3
shaper_i-will-sift-through3 (to be honest, I don't understand anything after "ashes", but I like the tone)
shaper_i-will-unmake-you1
shaper_maintain-speed-and2
shaper_move-into-white-indicators1
shaper_no-contraband-detected3
shaper_perhaps-there-is-something1
shaper_pitiful-undermensh-you-cant-even-die-well2 (you emphasize the words "pitiful" and "can't" which is good, but should also emphasize "die" to carry the desired meaning; the word "undermensch" is [slightly misspelled] German for "sub-human," is it not? Maybe the writers envisioned a German accent for the Shapers -- if so they should have said something before you did all this work :-)
shaper_request-clearance3
shaper_some-art-can-only-be1
shaper_the-day-continues2
shaper_the-functional-may-still-be2
shaper_the-old-make-room-for2
shaper_the-universe-doesnt-hide1
shaper_though-you-struggle1 (can't understand anything after "struggle" on either version)
shaper_unable-to-comply3 ("comply" should rhyme with the Japanese toast "kam-pai" or the English phrase "some pie")
shaper_were-you-not-so-poorly-constructed2 (I particularly liked this one!)
shaper_what-a-waste-at-least3
shaper_you-are-not-authorized2
shaper_you-are-not-in-dock2
shaper_you-are-the-most-inelegant3
shaper_your-course-is-deviating1
shaper_your-phenotype-has-proven1
shaper_you-win-by-luck-alone3

The issue of the words being cut off was not noticeable to me. We can proceed with getting these ready for SVN, unless you want to redo the 4 on which I made suggestions for improvement. I'm sorry to admit that, when I was listening to these, visions of Sacha Baron Cohen playing the French driver in "The Legend of Ricky Bobby" kept intruding into my mind.

Sorry this took so long. I'm on a business trip with only my work computer, a locked-down Vista notebook. This task gave me an excuse to make an updated Ubuntu boot CD, so I could play the OGGs.

Et voila'!
Here's the pack with all the versions mentioned by Turbo, with txt and xml updated accordingly for the slight rewording differences.

In case new recordings are done, I'll upload a further update, but I'm confident this is at least a very good appetizer already so... bon appetit! ;)

The Shaper voices are now in the Win32 branch of SVN, thanks to the access granted to me by ace123. So now everyone playing SVN can hear Fendorin's great voice work. :D

I should have asked for SVN access sooner. As soon as I figure out how to get them into the other branches I will do so.

There's always time to make things better, but your effort made it possible for another faction to be heard in game, and that's what counts the most, IMHO. Of course I'm available for post processing of any further recordings you may provide.
(I'm proof-reading this sentence and, despite it wasn't my intention, it's making me think of... hmmm... Shaper commercials? )

And by the way, despite me using Linux, my last svn checkout brought me the Shaper voices, so maybe there's no need to commit those files anywhere else; I'll better check the exact options I used tho, but they should be just as described in the wiki svn howto.
