Discussion: Proposed Community Guidelines
Hello everyone,
From what I know of open source projects in general, it's often important to have community guidelines for how contributors interact with one another, etc. I would like to start a discussion here about what community guidelines we might want to adopt for Vega Strike. The idea being that if we plan for a larger group of developers, we might actually get them.

Some initial thoughts I had:
- Consider how you would feel if you were on the receiving end of the message you are about to transmit.
Be nice (kind, polite) whenever possible.
Even when it becomes necessary to confront someone, do so in a respectful and professional manner.
Don't leave people hanging, waiting on you for something, longer than necessary.

Re: Discussion: Proposed Community Guidelines
Good idea since we are essentially doing a restart just grabbed a pdf version of the RH open-decision framework will have a look at it in the morning and post my comments I would also like klauss's input as he was the main coder for such a long time and is one of the GitHub members currently doing the review on your pull request ATM we are a small group so consensus should not be arduous I would also like to define my personal role a bit more formally as I sort of got left hanging the last few years. My blender skills have gotten better and I'm also with the MakeHuman project so asset management may fit.

Re: Discussion: Proposed Community Guidelines
@TBeholder is this what you were referring to? https://github.com/DuckHP/Code-of-Merit ... F_MERIT.md
While I agree with much of the basic thrust of the above, it seems to me that the first point breaks the whole thing. It gives a few individuals absolute power in the project, including the power to throw out the Code of Merit itself, and replace it with literally any set of rules they want -- or no rules at all.
Also, it is a little naive to think that nothing beyond technical excellence is worth considering. What about questions like: How well are the contributors getting along? How do players like the game? Etc.

Also, BTW, this thread was not meant to criticize anybody. You guys have been very responsive lately, which I really appreciate. A lot of constructive feedback going on, as well.

@Loki1950 Absolutely, you should have a formal title. Maybe Community Facilitator, or something like that?

Re: Discussion: Proposed Community Guidelines
That fits with the role I have played for awhile now and the title I assigned myself The Shepard it's from a Fredrick Forsyth short story that CBC rebroadcasts every Christmas eve https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2_bLEqmBi0 good ghost story that he wrote on a challenge from his wife.I also have a fairly detailed knowledge of project history and the content here on the forum and though I am retired my memory is still sharp Making my way though that pdf good framework so far as I can see reminds me of my time on the fedora forums when it was my preferred distro from FC3 about the time I joined this forum as well.BTW there is a hidden sub-forum that was set up long ago for story development that could be used for private discussions of project leads or I can create a separate one for project administration as there is always need for conflict resolution and that is better done is a private setting to keep egos from attracting an audience.

Re: Discussion: Proposed Community Guidelines
My point being - Code of Merit appeared for a reason. Here's that reason.
This commissar takeover problem seems to be rather widespread on GitHub.
Edit: oops, forgot to turn that thing off.

"There is always need for conflict resolution." For sure. Creating a sub-forum for project administration sounds like a good idea to me.loki1950 wrote:That fits with the role I have played for awhile now and the title I assigned myself The Shepard it's from a Fredrick Forsyth short story that CBC rebroadcasts every Christmas eve https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2_bLEqmBi0 good ghost story that he wrote on a challenge from his wife.I also have a fairly detailed knowledge of project history and the content here on the forum and though I am retired my memory is still sharp Making my way though that pdf good framework so far as I can see reminds me of my time on the fedora forums when it was my preferred distro from FC3 about the time I joined this forum as well.BTW there is a hidden sub-forum that was set up long ago for story development that could be used for private discussions of project leads or I can create a separate one for project administration as there is always need for conflict resolution and that is better done is a private setting to keep egos from attracting an audience.
