a few suggestions

if i may be so bold as a first time poster. first i have to say this remake of privateer looks great it plays well too. i havent done any of the campaign yet so i cant speak to that so this is comming form someone of very limited experience but a few suggestions anyway.
1)an actual auto nav that takes you from one spot in the system to another. the current special engine jams to easy. and by jams i mean if your on the wrong side of a planet you can be boned for over an hour depending on how close you are to the planet. unless you dont care if your missions reset then you can just land. non special speed is just to slow to get out from behind a planet. this also happens if your using the special engine and wind up coming close enough to a ship for it to shut down on you.

2) i cant kill anything on normal without luck or help from some npc ships. seriously novice pilots like me who were able to complete the original but practically only by the armor of thier orion dont stand a chance in this remake. i dont really want the stigma of playing the game only on easy. and if they enemies get tougher as you upgrade then what the heck is the point of upgrading anyway. the point of upgrading is to make the game easier in some way the drone at the end of the game was always tough enough anyway and if the enemies just increase in difficulty as you upgrade then theres no point in even buying a better ship.

3) what is with the lack of auto landing. i pray i never have to duck for cover in a station while under attack. i dont see how i'd survive having to move at full speed while entering that damn docking bay manually. i have already crashed on several occasions when i wasnt under attack.

3) targeting ships around a spot in a system is made especially difficult since unless the ships are already hostile toward you you have to cycle through everything in the system to find out if a ship is around your "nav point". this is an extreme hassle to people who want to make their money pirating since merchants start out as friendly or neutral to you

it was the old standby and stable 0.4.3 as installed from the ubuntu repository. i would bet they are two very different beasties. you may well have already corrected these problems.

You don't need the music module... it's now included in its proper place inside of data4.x.

I attempted to remove all references to that music directory from that wiki page.

ok this manually entering the docking bay is still pissing me off even in the 0.5 version. twice in a row i have completed a rather long series of patrol missions only to die while trying to dock. and i was pretty sure i was properly aligned the second time

IF this is the Serenity mining base that you are docking to don't use the interior tunnel docking points use the exterior one near the radar dish i usually avoid the tunnels myself as you said bouncing around is not fun

Enjoy the Choice :)
