How does ECM function

Post by Hathur »

How does ECM function in the remake? Back in the original game I think it had a flat % chance to ruin the enemy's missile lock... is that how it functions in the remake?

In the manual I noticed a command Alt-E for "activate ECM" ... do I have to press this every time an enemy fires a missile at me to try to break the lock? Or is it automatic?

What's the percent chance for the ECM system to break missile lock for the 3 different kinds? (It doesn't show in the description in the shop).

It's automatic. In the original game, the 3 levels of ECM were 25%, 50% and 75% chance of misguiding a missile; but I think in the remake the numbers were rebalanced. They are still fixed % probabilities, AFAIK.

A bit of dancing around also seems to help. ECM is more effective when you're not moving in a straight line.

(Or so it seems...)

Indeed. And it would be a pretty boring paradigm if it wasn't so. In RL, when you release a flare or chaff you break immediately; otherwise they won't even work.
