Program Problem

Post by rocket »

Hello all,
I am having a problem running PR. It starts and tries to run, but it maxes out my processor and runs VERY choppy (too choppy to play). I have read through the readme and manual and have tried to tone down the settings as much as possible with no luck correcting the problem. I can't find any thing similar in the forum, so here I am.

My System:
OS: Windows XP, SP2
CPU: AMD 1900 (1.6 GHz)
HD1: 160 GB
HD2: 40 GB
RAM: 1024 MB

Let me know if there is any additional info required.

Thanx

Welcome rocket that sounds more video card related than CPU try updating your video drivers.if that does nothing lower screen resolution and cut the eye candy etc you know to routine from other games.

Enjoy the Choice :)

Persistant bugger...

Thanks for the welcome and suggestions.

I tried running as minimally as possible but to no avail. My video card is a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 with 128 MB video Ram. I will look into updated drivers (can't believe I didn't think of that).

I say it maxes out my processor because I look at the task manager processor history as soon as I shut down PR and it shows a solid 100% line. Is it possible that it is time to break the 2 GHz barrier and update my CPU?

Thanx,

the CPU speed should not be an issue as you can see in my sig i run an amd xp1800 which gives me pretty good game play and minimal slow downs.

Enjoy the Choice :)

I use a 1.8g pentium 4 on two machines... one's a laptop and it runs the game just fine. I have a x600 ati radeon and a 9200 ati radeon. I'm betting it has to be video card related. 9200's a POS. >.<

ironicly it's my laptop that has the x600... it's sad to see the custom computer I built to be so useless compared to a laptop >.< lol.

Hi Rocket, I've got the same video card and no problems running on XP + SP2. I can't tell you much about my driver though, its;

Provider: Nvidia
Date: 9/03/2006
Version: 8.4.2.1

Sorry, I can't upload it as it's a 20.9 Mb install file and I have a REALLY slow internet connection. Maybe you can google it. Good luck. :)

Problem Solved!

Post by rocket »

Thanks everyone for your help...

It's funny how sometimes the most basic thing is the easiest to overlook (and is usually the solution). My goof was that I did a format/reinstall of my OS last week and forgot to get the updated driver (was using the Windows default). Once I updated the driver (available from the NVIDIA website) I noticed a MUCH faster load time and very smooth mouse movement and flight control.

A note to future solution seekers... DON'T FORGET THE BASICS!! lol

Thanks again,

New Issue

Post by rocket »

ok... 1 problem down....

i'm trying to setup my joystick (wingman extreme digital)... how do i get the digital hatswitch to work? i've been experimenting with the vegastrike.config file and can change the button associations, but thats it. Also, when i hit my missile key, i launch two missiles instead of one. A little help please!

Thanx

VS supports two types of hats: analog and digital.

Analog hats need to use <bind hatswitch> / <axis hatswitch> pairs.

Digital hatswitches are easier:

Code: Select all

<bind joystick="0" axis="0" direction="right" command="XXXXX" />
You just do one of those for each direction.

You can read about it here (it lists the possible directions):
http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/wiki/ ... FHATSWITCH

Also, make sure that your tags are not within any of the <!-- # joystick ... --> commented out areas as they might not be seen.
