Autotracking problems
I bought an orion today, still just two neutron guns and autotracking on both.
I also bought a 90,000 credit (? expensive whatever it was) radar that supported both options in the upgrade info.
Though when I try and fight, when pointing towards the enemy or otherwise, close and far away, still no autotracking.
I've tried the whole pressing "k" thing but no luck.
If anyone knows what the deal is please enlighten me.

Things are a little wonky, but it seems I've managed to get those working.
at first when I started the game last time, they didn't work, then I did some missions and for some reason I was attacked by dalrathi (was on ok standing with them before, perhaps from doing missions?) and decided to test them out. Now the guns with tracking fired towards the target... I haven't done anything different or I would explain, guess I should just be happy things worked themselves out (unless they unwork themselves out).
With that fixed, I have another issue. I did the mission for the guy with the artifact. Then I did a mission for tayla, but accidentally clicked before I read everything. Went ahead and flew to the destination and not sure where to go now. I still have the artifact in cargo but I've tried landing several places (including New Detroit) and can't figure out how to continue.
If anyone knows the next step off the top of your head, I would be grateful for some help.

Press "O" and the objective list on your ship screen will tell you where to go.Viper168x wrote:

Accessing the mission computer and selecting "missions" will also tell you what missions are still unfinished.
After your first encounter with Tayla, she always ends up in the bar at pirate base - that's where you have to go.

Go to Oxford and talk to the librarian. If he doesn't offer you a mission then your game got mixed up somewhere along the way, you'll have to restart the Tayla missions from scratch.Viper168x wrote:Tried pressing o and nothing, returned to the pirate base several times and couldn't find anyone but pirates in the bar on occasion.
Artifact still in hold.
Once you accept a mission it's better to do them right away, strange things happen sometimes when you take side trips. This is what happened to me on the third Oxford job, the Drayman I was supposed to escort was no longer at the designated jump point when I got there.
Sometimes during a particularly frustrating mission, I'm very tempted to chuck that artifact thing out of the airlockklaus wrote:And you never get rid of the artifact.
People will kill to get their hands on that thing - so it must be worth something.
(play along)

that must have been what happened, I've visited oxford several times and the librarian always refuses access.
How do I restart it, new game or is there a better way?
Btw - is there any way to get the kilrathi off of me? Or is it because of doing the missions? I can blast their ships to pieces in a snap but I'd rather not have to fight those I can't outrun when trying to get somewhere.

If you still have the Sandoval mission saved somewhere then try starting from that point. Otherwise, you'll have to use the New Game option.Viper168x wrote:that must have been what happened, I've visited oxford several times and the librarian always refuses access.

In your new game, avoid taking on bounty missions involving hunting down Kilrathi ships. Since you generally start out with a favorable rating with them (killing retro's and pirates seem to make them happy ) that will keep you on their good side for quite a while.
They may even help you out on the dreaded Palan missions

I've noticed going into palan is hell now I'm at -100 with them from defending myself. I've never taked a bounty on them nor attacked their ships.
Will killing pirates and rets increase me somewhat fast? any idea how many? I have no problem taking them out, especially retros I'll just go after for fun since they have bb guns or whatever they use, and are out in a shot or two.
I'm actually at a positive rating with pirates now, is that because of doing the missions? I can't complain not being attacked everywhere though, except for rets and now the rathis. I love killing the rets though, so those aren't an issue, remind me of the luddites in vs.

Also, I appreciate the help.
And in this situation, any simple ways to cheat to replace my ships when starting over, and perhaps cash for upgrades? At one point trying to build up my ship I couldn't afford to upgrade and it took me a day or two just to get so I could fly between systems without being ripped apart.
If anyone could explain my question about the kilrathi it'd be helpful also.
Anyways, thanks for the help.

Money is easy: Just open your save with a text editor, and you'll find the number in the first line, pretty clear.
About retros: you'll find Oxford is a great place to "fix relationships". You'll never run out of retros to blow up there. Be careful, though... they might overpower you by sheer numbers.

You can say that again, my Orion got swarmed by about 6-7 Retros on an out of the way trading run. I ran out of dumbfire missiles and that's when the ship's weak gun placement hit me despite two mounted Ion guns.klauss wrote:Money is easy: Just open your save with a text editor, and you'll find the number in the first line, pretty clear.
