Game crashes when showing "Loading thrust0018.png".

Version 1.2, downloaded it today. Running Windows XP.

Radeon X700 video card using the latest drivers from ATI.

Okay this is tragic and even ridiculous. Even though the game is free and open source one should be able to expect some kind of technical support...

Sorry Solipsist... I guess the older post must have gone unnoticed or something.

Frankly, I don't see anything wrong in the logs. That's a weird thing - either it's the drivers (ATI doesn't make the best OGL Drivers... it wouldn't be surprising if even the latest, they had some bugs responsible for the crash), or an installation error.

Did you try uninstalling/reinstalling?
Also, stay on the lookout for driver upgrades. That, or try older drivers. Sometimes, older drivers are better (more stable) than newer ones. In that regard, for ATI, I'd recommend Omega drivers - they're great, and very stable. I never had any trouble with them.

OK, I waited, and it's really frozen! or It runs, but I get no music!

If you are running a firewall, such as Windows XP's built in firewall, you must configure the firewall to allow the computer to connect to itself (127.0.0.1). The XP firewal pops up an annoying message about blocking the soundserver, ifyou are in fullscreen, this can freeze your display. Start the game in windowed mode to acknowledge the popup. (choose a windowed mode in the setup program)
This worked for me - mine hung in the same spot yours did, and wouldn't allow alt+tab or ctrl+alt+del because the firewall was engaged in stopping a program, namely Privateer Remake!

Give it a shot, see if it works!

If Alt-tab does not work, you may have to go to Setup, and select Windowed mode for the time being, accept the firewall connection, quit, and then go back to the game using the fullscreen option in setup again.

You can also go to windows firewall settings and allow connections by "localhost" or "127.0.0.1" -- these are two names for the local computer -- because a computer should have no reason to be blocked from accessing itself.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions! I'll try shutting down my firewall while running the game. Took a while to get help but when this post got some attention, it's all first class. Thanks again. I'll keep you posted on the progress!
