Lost artifact when bought ship

It seems I lost my artifact when I bought a galaxy -- actually it looks like I lost all my cargo, but all I care about is the artifact since it's part of the plot.

Any help?

It should still be in your old ship (unless you sold it). I wouldn't worry about it though, its presence in your cargo list is purely cosmetic (the plot will continue as normal).

Thanks for the help.. So is there a way to transfer cargo from 1 ship to the other?

it should happen when you buy a new ship--at least from the man...
you can sell all your goods at the base and rebuy them when you get a new ship--there's no sales tax
