im sure i did a plot mission with 3 Kamekh, it was really easy though because there were a bunch of Broadsword around, i took one on my own and by the time i'd done it in the other two had just gone up too.

...maybe that was a dream...

I have to add that I was playing the Privateer Gemini Gold branch. Without Autotracking, Demons are really tough. Granted, haven't fought Confed yet, but from what the main storyline provides for, Demons are the worst opponent you can possibly face. If they are up against you (and it's not like 6 of them at a time, whom you can't even outrun), you stand at least a chance because they will give you a target for several seconds once in a while. The Oxford Mission 3 is close to impossible (although I made it eventually, with a Centurian, 4xPlasma and 20 FF), as you don't have a real target at any time.

I would go with the Broadswords. Things are darn tough to take out.
Destruction of the empty spaces is my one and only crime.

I just ran into a surprisingly hard to kill kilrathi, but it was WCU, so It probably wont have any relevance here. That Jalthi was unkillable. I couldn't hurt it. It was eating dumbfires like a CHAMP. In desperation, i started ramming it, and died. I was i a centurion, two tachyons and two neutron guns.

Depends on what you are looking for. There is a number of pages which have avatars. You just ahve to link them. But most of those pages go in one special direction in style... Just google for it.

Why don't you create your avatar yourself. Makes it a real personal thing.
I think the best ones are homemade. Look at coffeebot's avatar. I can't imagine that he had downloaded it somewhere... :D

Im not very artistically inclined :(. If I had autocad i might be able to whip something up. I did find something that would have fit the bill, and after editing it to where it met the requirements, it didn't work. Well, on to google! ::fanfare::

With autotracking the original big boss (a.k.a. The Drone) became too easy.
I remember back in the old days (yah..those were the times), Palan was a challenge but it wasn't as hard as the drone.
The drone was small, highly maneuverable, and hard (yep, harder than Demons) to hit.
I think autotracking should "fail" to "autotrack" for this particular ship. Just say it's an alien technology which interferes with autotrack....

AFAIK autotrackers are there mainly because missions are not balanced too well, so some of them are impossible to accomplish without these goodies. When the missions are accomplishable - the fate of autotrackers won't be sure (I hope they will stay, but be less powerful).

Autotrackers are a major blessing for some of us. I mean, me and my dad both, can't aim worth squat. I look back and wonder just how I managed to beat the original privateer and RF. I agree they need to be toned down a little, but please, for the love of whatever diety you hold sacred, don't take away my ability to hit things!

My opinion in this matter is similiar to yours. But I think we are just victims of too good ai players and game unbalancing. I remember breaking the blockade in original Privateer - I was almost proud that I've beaten those bounty hounting bastards! In Remake I was so $@$#@^#* happy that those kitties came and helped me so I didn't die after 10 seconds and was able to defeat them.
Developers focus on making game be playable without autotrackers, and I think it is the right direction. They are intended to be toned down so they are not so powerfull.

When I first bought a Paradigm, I jumped in to Tingerhoff and found myself face-to-face with a Kamekh with a slew of escorts. At the time I had no idea how to use my wingmen, so the Kilrathi fleet made quick work of me. It was a little strange to be engaged with another cap ship, as we were both incapable of maneuvering in anyway. We just sat in one place and blasted the heck out of eachother...

I don't think any of the ships are really too nasty. The problem with Demons is that the missions invoving them are difficult due to either the situation (defending a Drayman) or really excessive numbers (Palan 3). In small groups they're not that bad.

The Gothri. The Demons' reputation is largely part to the difficult missions you encounter them in, not only are they in large numbers - they start out as friendlies to begin with and that's hell in escort missions. They're also built for hit and run and are pretty frustrating to handle in those situations.

Heavy armor and shields and firepower. Incredible manueverability for such a heavy fighter. The turret is in a great position, able to cover front, back and sides.

Replace the Demon with the Gothri in most missions and the difficulty level in completing them would go up.

also blimmin quick, i didnt realise before i actually flew them that its top speed is 1200, this is even more than the Dralthi (1000)

i agree actually, if im gonna get beat up by something, it's probably a Gothri, though theyre not too hard to destroy, you just take a bit of damage while doing it

Hi guys,

I feel quite poll - ish these days, so I thought, I'd bring this up again.
BTW, there seem to be many new guys in the community who haven't had their word on evil demons and terrifying Dralthi... :)

I'm a newbie like the post before mentionned.

As of yet, the worse fight I had was with a Gothri. Mind you I only had a Tarsus so I got creamed. I'll buy a Galaxy soon, make money and do the bonus campaing once I have like 1M to buy one.

The hardest to fight one on one is any capship. Duh.

Fighter-wise though, I still say the Broadsword. It's got fire coming from above, below, and from all sides - so it's a pain - and the fire is in pretty significant volume, for a fighter. Not a pretty fighter to go up against.

For capships, I'd say the Kamekh. It has decent P/Y/R speed (for a capship) and puts out a mind-bogglingly thick volume of fire, and a good bit of it isn't pitiful little laser fire, either.

Any capship is immensely more difficult with the changes I've mad to my version, though. Even the humble Drayman.

The hardest ship?

Demons. they won't keep still, they good shields and good guns.

I find it a lot easier to destroy some thing with Laser guns than with Plasma guns.

Broadswords are easy, just stay behind them. (master the "Shelton Slide")

You asked for the worst SINGLE craft. NOT FLEET. Hmm, just today I fought 7 Retro Talons. I survived that though I did come out limping. But on the bright side they came out in my cargo hold under Contraband and I just found out that Perry pays a lot for Contraband. I repair and take on a Bounty Mission of Gothri type craft. I thought it said 1 wingman until I got to Palan or some other system. It turned out to be 11. I kinda missed a 1. I lost my Radar, Com Link, Shields, and a myriad of other things. In the end I had to head to the local asteroid field were each one meet there end.

Especially because they can be really heavily armed in the remake, Talons can be a plaque when they appear in big groups.
