Is it possible to MOD the NPC AI in 1.2?

I noticed when I hired wingmen they would bunch up, take damage from running into each other, and make no attempts to break away or refrain from hitting each other.

Is it possible to make them keep a specific distance from any and all targets?

Also, how does one make changes to the game menus and interfaces? I'd like to add features like:

Repair All Damaged Equipment
Sell All/Buy All Missiles
Upgrade Radar for auto-Lock on nearest hostile target
Adding a time stamp to the saved files list

Any help?[/code]
