You can't get to it from: http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/ , though, I guess they're making the site pretty or somethin like that,...

Sorry for random post, i probably should've tried that first

Ok ...I guess i'm like retarded or somethin... so I do exactly what the instructions say and I didn't have a C:\priv folder so i moved Privtateer Remake folder to C:\ And renamed it "priv"and did the tortiseSvn thing and i ended up turning the orginal folder wich was like 200 mb (just guessing) into somthin like 907 mb... then it runs slow as all h**l...kk

so now I got my final Machine and went to install it the same way... only this time all I get is errors saying that the same folder, file, repository, whatever with that name exist's, I'm like No S*** Sherlock....
Arn't they supossed to exist, then the SVN Client does a comparison to the sever and swigs and swaps accordingly ... the most it downloads is a 175 kb file(then says only 4 kb was tranfered) and I suppose that is just a ping or somthin... :?:

Does SVN download Remake and PU or just PU...If it does both Could I just Type "C:\Privateer" as a directory for SVN to place the files and just let SVN create a directory and do it's thing???

Also, the Security Certificate is Invalid (out of date, it expired in Dec. 2007)... :!:

And one last thing, the "fireblade" shows up on sell as a devoplers ship...is that supposed to be like that, I've notice a few Oddities and am starting to think Something is wrong...

PU is an add on to PR so yes you get both the first missions of PU are to unlock the jump drive you will also notice some new models like the Tarsus although not textured yet now to get you a playable download i usually set up my svn repos in the shared folder all in one place and use Tortoise's export function for a playing copy so i don't corrupt the repo with my hacks  lots of HD space 8) so if you want to start again just create a folder in shared call it Sandbox or SVN repo or something you like the do the svn checkout don't worry about the out of date certificate it will work chuck is in the process of getting a new one  the change should be seamless looks like that update after you moved the folder is normal as what svn does for updating is to check for differences between your repo and the master repo and update your local repo with the master copy so if you just did an update them there where no changes to download.hope this makes sense if not just post i will try explain better.

Enjoy the Choice :)

Yeah I noticed that too, when u go to buy ships and you click the Tarsus, under "Model" it reads: Template--Warning--Bug :? ...

But I think I finally got it to work, Got through the first 2 missions; Gems to Helen, and Kill merchant traitor, But on the 3rd mission "Defending Helen" I completed it but the screen kinda froze in a weird way too, like my cursor still moved but it was a Windows Cursor (white arrow) not, the vegastrike target...
My computer wasn't froze though, otherwise the cursor wouldn't move...
I did a Ctrl, Alt, Delete(Taskmanager) and it wouldn't pull it up, I tryed a few times and then waited a few minutes(like 10)...so I had to force a manual shutdown...

If anyone has some input that would help..that would be great, I haven't played again so if someone could use a dump file or a save or somethin just let me know...

In the bin folder there should be to files stdout.txt and stderr.txt they are the log could you post the last 20 or so lines of each we may be able to figure out what borked  not sure what happened but the log files will help.

Not sure why you svn'd PU to your PR folder. PU is separate from PR. It is its own game entirely. You don't need anything from PR.
I'd recommend you start again:
Delete the PU and/or PR folders.
*DEFRAG your drive*
Then create a folder, such as C:/priv_pu
And SVN out to it.

If the game ever crashes, like it did; (doesn't usually happen); before you ctrl-alt-del, do an Alt-Tab to get back to the desktop first; then ctrl-alt-del to kill it. You won't get the task manager come up while the screen is still in openGL mode.

It is essential that you put PU into an empty folder. If you throw it over a PR installation, you'll have a vegastrike.config floating around somewhere else and therefor the game might pick the old one.

chuck_starchaser wrote:Not sure why you svn'd PU to your PR folder.

Well, I relized that I did something wrong so I did just that, deleted the folders, defraged, installed tortiseSvn, created new directories, dowloaded, then defraged again....In that order :D

It is essential that you put PU into an empty folder. If you throw it over a PR installation, you'll have a vegastrike.config floating around somewhere else and therefor the game might pick the old one.
I did that after my first rampage...

o.k. so now I try again... I got through that mission (defend helen) I got to the one with a broadsword; then the talon ran away and never came back...

Out of no where the broadsword starts shooting...I'm just sitting there lookin around when, Wham, wham, wham...the broadsword nailed me like three good times and in my weakined state i was done....so I respawned only to be back at "defending helen" so autosave didn't work, and i do the mission and receive NO PAY... so I do the next one and guess what, I'm just a volunteer again :P :P :P

Sooooo........... :?: :!: :?: :!:

Don't rely on autosaving. make sure you actually save.

Also, missions can be touchy--defend is kind of an open ended type of mission, and I forget exactly what requirements there are for completion.

Not sure PU has the Heads up display messages enabled (where you can see the text of conversations, etc.) but a message should show up there upon completion *or failure* of a mission.

If for example the unit you are defending blows up then you will fail entirely.

Yeah , it has one

But that doesn't explain the bizzare behavior of the AI, nor does it explain the weird thing where my ship was launched at many times it's capable speed into an uncontrollable tumble a gazillion miles away...It was kinda cool to see though; it played out quite smoothly, I wish y'all could've seen it, but it had to have been some kind of rare bug or something :?

Maybe there's a conflict while something on my computer with the game, The thing is this is the first computer I started playing with, back when you had to manually place the PU Mod into the Remake folder( if I remember correctly) and it used to run flawlessly (many hours of enjoyment :P ), but my screen broke...but now I'm using an external monitor(it's a laptop, just in case nobody guessed) a "hp pavilion vx74" and I also added my machines TMI Bus..lol    (I know, not that funny)in my signature in hopes that it helps with this issue in some form or fashion...

Again Thanks everyone for their time and input :D :D :D

We got serious problems with the AI. Your escorts always attack whatever you target. So you launch from a base, and mabybe the base is your target by default, so they will attack it. We know about this bug but don't know how to fix it. Now, the broadsword attacking YOU, that is something surprising. Almost un-friggin-believable. Never heard of it. In fact, when we spawn wingmen, they are a special faction that is always at +100 friendliness towards the player; so I don't understand how that could happen. You must have accidentally shot the guy like 25 times or something; unless you managed to target yourself somehow...

Yeah I noticed that they shoot at your targets, like the bases for example, but like I said he was shooting erratically , so it was most likely an accident; friendly fire of sorts...
My shields were down, one meson blaster didn't work, radar was screwed, armor depleted; you get the picture...It didn't take much to finish me off...

But, I'm not at all implying that he just started hunting me down or something...he just seemed to be shooting everywhere, I was pivoting the camera to try to see what at(nothing on radar, but it was in bad shape, soooo) when he must've connected with me...

Ah, okay; gottcha.
Yeah, craziness in the AI is not uncommon. Unfortunately, pretty much nobody knows the AI code well, so it's going to be a long time before we tackle this kind of problems. We're working mostly on remodeling and retexturing, right now; and fixing the ship spawning dynamics, working on improving trade and economy and missions, improving the fixer character animations, and many other things. AI will probably come after we get through most of this other stuff.

O.K.

Thanks for the input everyone, I'm closing this topic(unless somebody else wants to read it, other than that it wasted webspace) b/c I've decided to do bug reports in a more specific and informative manner, I would like to make some kind of contribution to the community for striving to bring such an AWESOME game into the world; granted it existed already(in a sense), but not by much with out all of the fans and contributers....

I have several machines most with Windows OS but one is Ubuntu Linux, and I could dedicate the others to different "Vegastrike" Engine supported Operating systems to look for bugs and flaws or what ever...

Now I do work 3rd shift(Forklift Operator  ) so I tend to sleep alot during the day but soon or a later that will change :P ....

So, just let me know...

Also I wanted Some one to look at the files I posted in the Privateer Universe thread...
