I might have an idea

Need help testing contributed art or code or having trouble getting your newest additions into game compatible format? Confused by changes to data formats? Reading through source and wondering what the developers were thinking when they wrote something? Need "how-to" style guidance for messing with VS internals? This is probably the right forum.

I might have an idea

Where would I find the planet mesh in the data folder?

I had been pondering the fact that you can fly through planets and was thinking about modeling my own planet. The textured surface of the planet would still be there, but I would add some fog (if fog is possible) directly beneath the surface. The fog would dissipate into air and below the air would be terrain. I would model buildings onto the terrain and put docking points near the buildings.

Is this a stupid idea? It sounds so easy that there is probably a reason why no one tried it before.

Planet meshes are automatically generated spheres, sorry to disappoint :-)

But you should be able to do something similar to the wormhole ('cept for the fog part), if you want to look at that as an example.
