Joystick all over the place.

Post by lowededwookie »

System: Mac OS X.4.10
Machine: 1.66Ghz Intel Mac Mini
Version: 0.4.3 (Intel files installed)

I setup the joystick and joystick actually works but if you leave the controls alone the ship rolls and spins all over the place.

If you hold the stick so that the ship is level then do a jump or get into a conflict then things sort themselves out and for the rest of the game letting go of the stick the ship remains level.

Anything that can fix this? I mean it's no real biggie as it just requires a little bit of concentration initially but it is kind of weird.

Same thing happens in Privateer Gemini Gold. Haven't tried the others but figure it's probably going to be the same deal.

@lowededwookie is there a joystick calibration utility so you can set a dead zone.

Enjoy the Choice :)

I can find a couple but none talk about my joystick.

That's something Apple should have included because they include a really good joystick interface system for games.

Nothing came with the joystick because Logitech have never included drivers for Macs.

It's pretty weird that it doesn't work then it works fine. Like I say, it's no real issue as it does come right without any configuring.

Shouldn't there be an option from the Vegastrike/GLUT menu?
I don't remember exactly where, but I think there's a menu for joysticks in the game itself.

You might want to try setting it to Windowed mode from setup to find the menus.

How do I do that on the Mac?

When I run setup I only get the DOS style setup screen not the GUI. Under the DOS style screen there doesn't seem to be an option for Windowed mode.

The window mode control is labeled "Color" and has four options 16 bit Windowed,16 bit Full Screen,32 bit Windowed and 32 bit Full Screen hope this helps.

Enjoy the Choice :)

I forgot that 0.4.3 on mac uses an Ncurses-type setup instead of GTK.

Not very friendly but hopefully it works. :?

I wonder if any GTK-on-OSX projects (such as this) are in a usable state...

I found the Windowed mode but no luck on the menu options. Just had the standard menus that had nothing in them.

Oh well, I'll see how the next version stacks up. Different engine may remove the problem.

Thanks for the help anyway guys.

With regards GTK, rumour has it that Leopard will be able to run GTK apps natively. But then that's two months away so hopefully by then the new version of Vegastrike will be out. :)

I believe an August date is still in line, even if it is late August.
There are still 20 days.

If everything works out poorly, there's a chance that it will end up in September of course, but I have a shortening list of bugs that need to be fixed.

I intend to release with networking support as well... even if inot all MMORPG aspects are there yet.
There are really only a few small (but serious) bugs remaining in basic network play...

Funny thing happened on the way to the Forum, under window mode the joystick problem seems to have gone.

Also the Nav computer showing two directions seems to have gone as well.

The downside is heavy battles seems to make the display judder a bit but not to worry.
