Vega Strike launcher not working

When I click start new pilot or any other button (except help and quit, which do work) the Please wait while Vega Strike starts message shows for a split second then exits.
This happens with SVN after downloading it with the launcher. Also, same thing happens with the Vega Trek launcher.
Anyone know how to resolve this?

Don't use the launcher any more. It doesn't work.

Just directly start the Vegastrike executable to play the game.
You can access your saved games and start new games from the computer when docked to a base.

Also the launcher has been replaced by the brand-new ingame main menu in SVN HEAD. Check it out!
